my mom takes in the resumes and applications where she works and she told me if she sees a person wearing something casual she'll just tell them they're not hiring. the job is nothing fancy or high paying either.

I think to be on the safe side, interview attire. Sometimes it looks a bit ridiculous, but better safe than sorry. You can only apply once within a certain period of time after all. The job does not need to be fancy or high paying for you to dress respectfully - and that's what it's all about really, showing respect and that you're taking it seriously. Though, depending on the situation and type of work environment you're applying for, you may want to tone it down a bit or kick it up a notch. Just use your own discretion, really.
