My Review of Zeal (Guy's Perspective)

So I ended up staying with Chika whom I booked the original appointment with. Let's just say, after watching all the stylists cutting everyone's hair in Zeal, I felt like they were all masters and artists.

We looked through some books for a minute and she recommended me a style, which happened to be the almost exact one in the book I was flipping through. She read my mind.

The cut was awesome. This was the first time I've ever had my hair cut with ONLY scissors, and NO RAZOR to shave off volume or long hair. Well, she did use a razor but only at the end to get rid of neck hair.

My haircut turned out to be exactly to be like the one in the book. Mind you, I have always brought pictures or chosen out of books at other salons (cheap salons), but no hair dresser had EVER replicated/styled the cut 100% EXACT. Chika was the first and I was very satisfied with the cut.

Now at home, I've been experimenting with my hair with different styles, and it is so much easier to style now. I have always told my previous hair cutters for the past 5 years to give me "layer" cuts. I guess up to now, I've been getting fake layer cuts all these times. I can totally tell a difference in my hair with the layers, and even my friends notice it too.

I also got my hair dyed. I did mention that my hair has always been resistant to dyes in the past. I have never ever ever gotten the color I want. Whatever color I pick, it usually always turns out darker or like my hair was never dyed.

Again, this time, it happened again, but I am not sure if it was the effect of the dye I picked or if it was my hair. The color was wonderful, and clearly visible in bright light. Only when I got home, I realized my hair looked like it wasn't dyed at all. However, if you look really closely, or if I stand under really bright light, you can truely see the color.

If I would have known, I would have asked for my hair to be dyed a second time. Money is no concern to me, and I would have for sure paid a second application.

I definitely would go back. No more cheap 10 dollar haircuts for me. I will get my hair cut with Chika again. She was so sweet too. There isn't any reason I could think of why I would chose another stylist, unless I randomly wanted to pick another one for the fun of it, or if Chika is working on a day I really really need my hair done.

Well, I've browsed through the internet for many weeks now and I decided I probably want to go to Zeal.

I totally need a new hair make over- the works- new style/cut/coloring.

I had a really good stylist @ another place, but he quit last year and I've been getting bad hair cuts since then.

Can anyone recommend a stylist @ Zeal. Planning on going to the downtown location one.

The only review I could find on a stylist on Etsuko. People say she does a really good job, but all the reviewers were girls. I'm a guy =(

I read Chika, Shingo, and Tomoko's profile on zealhair.com. They look interesting. Anyone have experience with them before or anyone else?

Re: Stylists @ Zeal?

I see Chika from time to time. She's super sweet and though we have a little trouble communicating (her english isn't the best, but its improving!) so we usually go through magazines together to find a cut that suits me. But I'm a girl too.. so i don't know how well she does guys cuts.

I've highlighted my hair with her twice too. The first time was aiight.. but.the 2nd time was great!

I would definitely recommend her for a girl's cut.

I'm guessing you're referring to my review recomending Etsuko.

Yes, I am a girl, but that doesn't mean I chose a stereotypical 'girl' cut.
I have a short asian mullet, similar to a guy haircut with slight variations.

If you want, I can link you to a picture of my hair in private messaging.
Just let me know, but ya, I'm going to go back to Zeal on Robson when my roots grow out, so it would be nice to hear of other good stylists to try out

Re: Stylists @ Zeal?

I book an appointment with Chika, but I'm consider changing it.

This may be biased, but I have never had good sucesses with female hairstylists. But then again, all the female stylists I've seen are @ the pretty cheap places.

I've had much better exerpience with male hair stylists in the past. Since they're guys, they should know the most to date on guy hairstyles, right?

I'm really considering of going for a male hair stylist @ zeal but I'm not sure who would be good for a guy. Since Taka is a master, would he actually be patient with his clients in helping in teach a person to maintain his/her hairstyle? The other person I would consider is Shingo, because he is recommended on the zeal website.

The price depends on how difficult the cut is I think; chose a jrock haircut x)
Mine was around $40 too.
