How to quit a job?

Okay this sounds kinda stupid, i'm working part time right now (once a week) and i'm planning to quit my job. So do i still need to give my boss a written letter about resigning and a two weeks notice? or can i just verbally tell him i wanna quit?

because if my previous jobs, i was really close to my boss, so i just verbally told them i'm quitting, and they didn't need the two weeks notice

you probably need to hand in a letter of resignation saying that you are unable to continue woking for that company and this is your two weeks notice

a written two weeks noticed is the best thing. sometimes people forget or it's on their back burner. make sure you have the date when you handed it in and the last day you will be working.

If i ask for a reference letter can my boss say no and not write it for me?
like honestly my boss can be such an ass... that's why ppl tell me not to put him down as a reference

Yeah, your boss can refuse to write it for you, he is not obligated to give you a reference. On that note, you might not want to put him down as one of your contact references for new jobs, since he seems likely to give you a bad reference.

see if you boss is such an ass then you should make sure you have a written documentation to quit. and maybe even copy one for yourself if he's really an ass. as for the letter of reference... if you were ok to him then i see no reason for him not writing you a nice letter. do you really need one from him? how long have you been working there for? anyways... if he say's no then you should ask him why.

yah my co-work said asked for a reference letter instead...
i don't know i hate my job right now because it stresses me out alot, and i'm not happy
but i'm just working there because it's just once a week...

It really depends on the kind of person your boss is and your relationship with him. If you're not that close to him, a letter is good for several reasons, one, that he/she will have you on file and can always refer back to it if needed for reference. 2nd is just for logistics purposes, ie. For doing your T4, issuing last paycheque, etc. A written notice is also one of your last impressions.

If you and your boss are more like "friends", or he/she is someone you think you'll probably keep in touch with after quitting, then writing a letter can sometimes be skipped. If you've verbally told him and he's cool with it, then that's ok. If I were you I would just ask if he'd accept a written letter as well, and see what he says.

it's gonna be 1 year in may....
like my boss likes to play 'favourites'... i just need a reference letter because i'm planning to apply for dental hygiene school, and it's always good to have something to back me up
