uhh...I'm afraid that if I go apply for jobs now..I wouldn't know how to answer that so I will need some help. I heard that it is not good to 'bad mouth' previous employers...but here are the reasons why I quit my last job.

first I was unhappy with the wage. Baristas (for coffee) usually get like $9 right? But I started with minimum wage and still no raise after 3 months after I worked there! Usually retail companies do wage increments after the probation period right? And the thing is, a month after I started work I had a keyholder position, with more duties and still get paid the same?

Also there are many times where I provided suggestions that will really benefit both the company and customers. (even my co-workers agreed with me). But the employer didn't listen or care.

And then I'm also very upset about how they treated their employees. We were expected to work no matter what unless we can find someone to cover the shifts for us. One time my legs hurt really really bad. I called them in the morning telling them I can't go to work at night because I could barely walk. And they were like "well what do you want me to do? There is no one that can take your shift." But my point of view is why didn't he hire people on a regular basis so that there are more employees that can work? in fact at that time many employees were trying to give shifts away because we were all busy. I was pretty upset that they did not train other keyholders or hire new employees until I quit.

I liked everything else about that job except the employer. So, what do you think I should say when I was asked about why I quit my last job? :/ (p.s. feel free to share your bad experiences too..)

say something along the lines that you want to expand your skills in different areas. say although you liked your previous job, you are looking for something more career orientiated. for example, retail. say that you really enjoyed fashion and design in hs (bsing...) and that you are want to take some courses that relate to that.

the thing is because i liked my last job..i am probably looking for something in the same industry..but yeah i see how your point is to change the focus and relate something to the present/future XD

ohok do you mean that you just want to apply at like a different coffee shop kind of thing?

yup...because that was my last recent job and I think with that experience I can get back to the industry pretty easily.

maybe say something like it's close to your house and you've been in there a couple of times. you enjoy the environment/atmosphere. and you have see how the employees work well as a team. you can also bs and say that your store did not give you enough hours, but be careful when you say that... because they might think you want to work alot.

i didn't get raised until 6 months later-.-" and managing was only $9! also no breaks, long shifts and they kept "on -calling" me

You can always take your chances and fib on your resume. I did plenty of times and got hired And performed excellent thank you very much

I think you should just write that u want to try something knew and u didn't really like the enviroment u worked at your last job.

i'm QUITTING my current job right now because:
1. i think my manager is racist towards asians (my race)
2. i haven't gotten an raise for months, too scared to ask for raise ..because he's intimidating
3. he picks on me all the time, telling me that i'm doing this and that wrong when it was just a 1 time MISTAKE
4. i'm always "on call", which ruins pretty much all my plans
5. i deserve way more then i'm getting right now since i work my ass off (fast food=really really busy)

i just want to work somewhere relaxing where i won't get as tired by the end of the day after i go home from work.. =\ i'm probably gonna go job hunting next month for a new job, hoping to get hired at a retail =)

i kinda have a same problem. here's the thing. i recently got a job, like 2 weeks ago at a small jewellery shop at west van. i love the job 'coz its pretty relaxing though sometimes it gets busy. LOVE LOVE my manager and my coworkers too. however, they pay me below minimum wage $8 (i heard $9 is the official minimum wage right now). Also i live in vancouver and bussing is really hard especially when have to go work straight from school, bussing usually takes me 1 hour and 20 mins. So like few days ago, this big retail company in downtown offered me a position for me to work there. i accepted it right away b/c of the benefits and all and the pay is $9 + commission and after a few months my hourly rate could increase.

i definitely wanted the 2nd job however i dont know what should i do with 1st one. Should i quit? Leave of absence for 1 month and get back at summer? im currrently in highschool and graduating too, so i dont want to work 2 jobs at the same time. i just feel so bad 'coz ive only been in my 1st job for 2 weeks and they seriously in need of people. sometmes they even dont get day offs for 2 weeks. aaahh. HELP?!
