Work Experience

Has anyone on here been hired at the place they did their work experience for after they were done their expected amount of hours? I'm going to be starting my work experience in a retail store during spring break and I was just wondering what some of you might have done to have the manager like you so much that they decide to hire you as one of their employees

Re: Work Experience

When I was in high school, I heard that fairweather was the worst place to be in, the one in metro, the manager was a total bitch, and made you clean up and just do the dirty work, so its like getting the experiencing to broom the floor and clean up. One of my friend refused to do it haha and so she didn't show up and talked to our school consellor. it was kinda funny.

Another friend of mine did work experience at rogers video, and she got hired after a week, and to this day she's still working there, working her way up, she's been there for 3 years now and she's still likes it there which is a good thing.

I had work experience at the bank, it was boring. The manager who was suppose to watch over me went on vacation, so then I had someone else watch over me, but she didn't really care, so all i did was filing, nothing useful. They didn't teach me anything, no helping customers or trying to do teller job kinda thing.

As for trying to get the job at your work experience place, it depends if they are acutally hiring, and if they really really like you. All you have to do is try and work your hardest. And show them what you can do, and just prove to them that you are a good employee and ask questions when you are unsure. I hope that helps =)

Re: Work Experience

I did work experience in urban behavior at metrotown and i had to clean that old clearance area they had. It was complete mess and chaos. Luckily i wasn't the only one there i had someone else to do it with. Me and her had cleaned that area up and kept it clean throughout the day aand we ended up getting hired.

Re: Work Experience

I had my work experience in HMV Metropolis back in 2006. I started on the week before Christmas (crazy), and left in early January. Nobody hires in January =(

hmm not sure but i don't think it's different? =S

for my school, everyone who was interested in a future career in tourism had retail stores for their work experience. (customer service? etc.) i'm guessing..

other ppl who wanted to become a teacher had placements in daycares and such

ppl who were going into science got dental places and others i can't remember...

Re: Work Experience

Yea if you do work experience in retail you have a better chance of getting hired after it's over especially if it's near peak season like summer or winter. Of course you also gotta prove that you're a good worker and impress the manager. I heard of one girl in high school who did W/E at Jacob and made over $5000 in sales in just one week. Needless to say she got hired right after.

Re: Work Experience

My friend who got placed at a hair salon, got hired and is still working there! She loves it and she's lucky she got a decent place... (Axis!!)

I was not so lucky and got Jacob in PC. it was like hellllll omgosh. i had to do 8hr/day not including break so it was basically 8hr 30min of being there =(
i hated the manager... i was literally 2 mins late but i called and told them and she still got all angry at me!
they also gave me all the stupid dirty work... like.. folding... steaming the clothes...etc.
and i had to get there at 8am in the morning and put up all the HEAVY shelves for display b/c they change it very often.... my arms hurt soo much...
they didn't hire me because i don't think they liked me much LOL but one of the girls there did work experience a year before me and she was still working there bcuz she got hired rite after

i hateddd that week it was a HORRIBLEEEE experience LOLLL >.< and i dropped out of career prep after..........................

Re: Work Experience

Hmm, I never had to do work experience; it wasn't a requirement for us (private school). But I've had a job since I was 15...

Re: Work Experience

my work experience was at a daycare. i did not like it. the place i went to was really really dirty. they had a cat as their pet and the cat would just wander everywhere and on anything! i would always see the cat on the counter where the food was prepared. seriously i think the cat ate some of it too. also... that was the cats home so at night the cat would roam anywhere. i never saw a cat litter....

no i did not get a job there and i don't think i would have wanted to work their either.

i remember some of my friends got their work experience in retail... i think it was really good for highschool, but if you know what you want to get into you should choose something that will help you out in the future.

Re: Work Experience

i think work experience is just pointless (for most of us) why bother going to the bank when all they'll make me do is staple papers?

my friend who wants to be a nurse went to bby general hopsital, and she did excel work for the entire week...what kind of experience is that?
