HBC - Cineplex Odeon Movie Passes

For all you movie buffs, HBC has their Cineplex Odeon Holiday Gift Package available. For $32.00 you get 4 Admit One movie passes, one free admission on your birthday, a free regular soft drink (when a large popcorn is purchased), free large twizzlers (when a large popcorn and a large drink is purchased). $10.00 off a purchase of $50.00 from Chapters, Indigo or Coles, $5.00 off when you buy 3 specifically marked sony BMG cd's from HMV, and $10.00 of a $50.00 purchase from HBC!

This is a much better deal than the one directly from Cineplex, because the Cineplex one is a $30.00 gift card instead of the 4 Admit One movie passes (everything else is the same). So for $2.00 more, you get 4 movie passes instead of a gift card that will only give you 3 movies and a bit of change (if you go on Tuesdays or during matinees, which I can't).

If you live in BC, remember to mention that this item is GST and PST exempt meaning that they are not supposed to charge you GST and PST. They may say ok, but will have to reverse the tax charges later, as I think that their computer defaults to charging the taxes, and it has to be overwritten by someone else.

If you are ordering online, wait until you get the email confirmation (usually just a couple of minutes), then phone 1-866-746-7422, give them your order confirmation number (from your email), and explain that you should not be charged for the GST and PST.

Here's the web page.

Yup. the coupons for HBC and the Coles/Indigo/Chapters have a $50 purchase before the coupon can be used though. And the birthday one has to be on the day of your birthday (you need to show proper ID with birthday on it).

There are also expiry dates on all the coupons as well as the passes (as expected). You have to use the birthday one by the end of 2008, for example. The movie passes are good until Feb. 1, 2010, so more than enough time for almost everybody. All the store coupons have really early expiry dates. HBC's in Jan 31, 2008, Chapters/Indigo/Coles is Feb. 14, 2008, and HMV is April 30, 2008. The free popcorn/twizzlers (with purchase) also have expiry dates too.

Check out the link in my post. It's directly from HBC (Hudson's Bay Company) so it is legitimate, and they have been selling this every Christmas time for several years, I believe. I just received my order of a 4 sets today (ordered November 26).

FYI, don't rely on an email to tell you the order has arrived. Make note of the confirmation number and check the status of your order online. A couple of days after it says that it has been shipped, phone the actual location you specified you wanted them delivered to and ask if it has arrived, of course, this is assuming you are using the free delivery option of having it delivered to a Bay/Zellers/Home Outfitters.

Re: HBC - Cineplex Odeon Movie Passes

you really have to ask around for the movie tickets. i've known people who have sold the movie packs for $28. they're quite hard to come by cause everybody wants them.

Re: HBC - Cineplex Odeon Movie Passes

Hey not a problem, that's what this site is all about!!! Hope everybody can get some before they're sold out. REMEMBER - tell them no tax!!!

WOW, $28.00?? That's super cheap!!! No wonder they sell out! Do they come with the extra coupons, I wonder, or or they the ones that, if you know someone who works for a really large company, they can get a discount? I know someone who used to work for Revenue Canada and yeah, when she got them, they were like 6.50 or 7.00 each. But it's only for the Admit One coupons. The reason for the cheap price is that those large companies buy them in bulk (several thousand), and then let their employees purchase them. All the employees, of course tell their friends, and each employee ends up probably buying a block of 100 or something like that. It only happens about twice a year (when the company buys the tickets).

Some restaurants (ie. Red Robin in Metrotown) take advantage of the bulk buying and offer a "Movie Madness" type deal. You get an Admit One ticket with your meal (of course the meal costs a bit extra than it would normally).

Re: HBC - Cineplex Odeon Movie Passes

the movie packs are identical. it's a xmas movie gift pack, 4 adult admissions + bday admission and coupons which nobody ever really uses cause of the quick expiry dates. it's hard to get the tickets for 6.50 now, the last i heard they were up to $7 for individual tickets.

Re: HBC - Cineplex Odeon Movie Passes

BTW, for all you movie buffs, it does pay to join SCENE and show your card every time you see a movie.
  • Earn 100 points every time you buy a movie ticket at participating Cineplex Entertainment theatres, including (maximum 2 visits per day), up to 200 points a day if you stay for a double feature!
  • Earn 120 points when you purchase movie tickets online with JUMP! at
  • Earn 50 points for each child's ticket (maximum 2 visits per day) (cannot be combined with the adult I believe. This means if two adults and a child goes to see a movie, you only get 200 points)
  • You can earn extra points if you have a Scene ScotiaCard and also if you have a Scene Scotia Visa.
When you reach 1000, you can redeem for a movie ticket, or for a concession combo (Large popcorn, large drink, small candy). When you purchase anything from the concession stand, its 10% off (which is great, considering their prices!!).

Check their website:

Re: HBC - Cineplex Odeon Movie Passes

Just so everyone knows, if you already have a Scene card and bought the HBC gift pack, you can still take advantage of the 1000 extra points. Just go to www.scene/ca/promo/giftcard and choose the already a member option. Then enter the promo code from the back of the coupon and the PIN number from the back of one of the movie tickets (under the bar code)

This means that horray, you actually get 6 movie tickets for 32.00 (4 admit one passes, 1 movie pass for your birthday, and the 1000 points, which is good for either one movie pass or one concession combo)!!!

I just logged on (I've been a scene member since September) and was able to use the 1000 points coupon. Yahoo, more movies!!
