breaking in and/or theft

I was just wondering how many of you guys had your apartment, house, condo, car, etc... broken into and stuff was stolen?
What were the items?
Did it have sentimental value?
Were you there?
How did it make you feel?
And anything else you want to add

Please Comment!

Re: breaking in and/or theft

Grade 5

I had a pencil box filled with all my my sanrio stuff: erasers, pens, pencils, stickers, ruler, etc... and also a few sanrio note books in my desk at school. I would usually leave it there because I didn't want to lug it around. one day it waws stolen and I was devastated. I was so upset that I never brought any of my sanrio stuff to school again.

Work

A couple of times I swear money has gone missing from my wallet. I don't keep much in there because I usually use my creditcards. But I usually have a few change and like at least a $5 bill just incase. But then when I check, it's not there or not as much as I expected. Maybe it's jsut me, but I'm going to start putting a certain amount of coins in my wallet. I feel really confused and try really hard to think if I might have spent it somewhere...

Last year

I was at work one day and my mom called me on my cell when I was on my break. she asked me if I came home and left the back door open. I replied no. She told me that she thinks our house got broken into (my place was really messy). So I told her were my things were (ie. laptop, camera, etc) and she told me it wasn't there. I was so shocked and pissed off. I kept thinking about it at work like "omg I bet you they stole my ipod". When I got home I checked my room and both my sister and I didn't have out digital camera and our laptops. So I called my boyfriend and told him what happened and then I freaked I noticed my jewelry that my boyfriend got me was gone. I usually don't wear my jewelry to work because it get's playdough on it and yeah so I leave it on my desk. I also lost my 1st anni ring: which had so much sentimetal value because my boyfriend picked it out, how he surprised/tricked me with a fake ring, and how I dropped it on the floor 3x before I even got it on my finger and because my boyfriend didn't have a job at the time so it took him forever to save up, and my grad bracelet from my boyfriend that had our names engraved in it: which was pathetic that they stole, and my christmas bracelet that I didn't even have for 1month. Luckily no one was hurt, because my dad was sleeping in the other room and my mom and brother was upstairs. The sad thing is... the place that my boyfriend bought my first ring from, doesn't sell it, and the place where they get it from has closed down..

About 2 weeks after our house got broken into again. They climbed into the top floor with a ladder in the kitchen window which is really small. They stole all my brother's games, playstation2, gameboy advance, and a few dvd's. My brother was so upset because he was only 10 and those were like his pride and joy (for a young kid). He balled his head off.

It was weird because it was like someone was watching our house and knew when were were home or not. My dad was literally gone for 10mins to drop my mom off at a station and they came and left. And it's weaird that no one saw whoever climbing through the window because it was during the day.... Now my sister is so paranoid that she doesn't stay home by herself. One time her boyfriend (an idiot) tried to freak her out and banged on the door when she was home alone. She freak and called my parents and they rushed home and she also called the police. It's hilarious to think about it now because her boyfriend was such an idiot....

i live in east vancouver. i live on a busy street and there are not many break ins. my parents talked to our neighbours and they suspected one guy in our area because he has a drug problem. the ladder that was used was stolen from a neighbours garage.

yes we do have a home alarm and have done mroe things to secure our house. the first time we didn't have our alarm on because my parents and brother were home. the second time my dad forgot to turn it on because he was gone for like 10mins and din't think that someone would climd through such a small kitchen window... which seriously had to be planned because it was only 10 mins and they used a ladder.... that was stolen too

that's utterly ridiculous...i can't believe they even took the ladder too! it really is odd and disturbing that nobody saw this happen.

yeah it was our stupidity the second time around because my dad left the window a bit open (second floor i might add) and didn't turn on the alarm.

so PLEASE make sure you lock doors/windows and set your alarm even if your like in your front yard talking to someone. seriously... you never know nowadays...

Re: breaking in and/or theft

long post alert!

last year, we kept getting quite a lot of mysterious phone calls at home. i think it was to check if anyone was home. one weekend, my brother and dad went out, taking the car with them, whereas my mom and i were still half sleeping. i guess it looked like the house was empty.. anyway, a bit later, my mom heard some banging on the front door, but she assumed it was my brother since he used to always do that (he never remembered his keys) and even then, she didn't get up to open the door because she knew my dad would probably be there shortly to open up the door. After, there was some banging at the back door. But before I go on, i should explain how the back door worked: our back door was a sliding glass door which was really one of the walls to the kitchen. i'm not sure if i'm making sense here, but it had ths metal track thing at the bottom... anyway, my mom heard these banging noises, and I heard metal clanging. Stupid thing is that I thought it was my dad securing up the back by installing metal strips so that the door wouldn't open when the thing was locked (he had been doing that earlier). my MOM thought it was me making the noise, which is kind of hilarious because what on earth could i have been doing? haha anyway, after a couple minutes, my mom got fed up and i heard her storming out of her room only to see this dude with a metal ..prying.. thing, trying to pry open the door. it ws really scary, because he ALMOST managed to get into the house with two weaponless females in it. anyway, in the end, the police never caught the damn idiot. after that, we installed a very obvious metal gate there. i'm happy, because we moved to a new a couple months after!
..i realize that i'm very wordy lol

Re: breaking in and/or theft

wow...that's so bad bombshell...i hate thieves.
my house and cars have never been robbed but i live in east vancouver too but pretty close to burnaby.

a long time ago...i think someone tried to set out house on fire..cuz there was something on fire on our garage roof...our neighbours called us cuz they thought we were bbqing...but we weren't...the guy ran off too...our neighbour chased him away...

and another time...the garage in the back has the classic white metal automatic door that rolls up and down to close...and one day...my parents n i noticed in the morning someone try to get in by prying the big automatic door...but i think they gave up...also there's these marks on the regular door to get into the garage...it looks like someone was prying it too...but nothing was missing.

i hate ppl that do this.

oh yeah! one time..this doesn't have to do with stealing...but in the morning..my dad and i went to the garage..he had to go to work..and he drives me to the bus stop on his way...we walk to our garage...and open the automatic doorl...there was bags and bags of dirt lying infront of our big door! we open the bags...and there's like bits of weed leafs...with lots of dirt...some bastard who had a grow up (im not sure who it is) puts his evidence in our yard!!!! and my parents don't even do those stuff at all!!! i was so pissed off...and my dad just dumped the dirt in our garden..like where else do u put it...gosh.

Oh wow, did you guys call the police?

I think it's important for all homes to have a good alarm system... a lot of houses in Vancouver, especially East Van don't have alarms.

Re: breaking in and/or theft

last year's summer .. my house got robbed . it was around 1pm, my whole family got ready together cause they were going to dimsum after they drop me off at my friend's house. they went back home at around 3 and i came home at around 6 and my sister told us we got robbed
it wasnt that bad since no one was home and they stole 1 camera, 1 camcorder, 2 laptops. and broke 2 doors and the gross thing is that whoever it was .. took a dump in our washroom AND didnt flush !
the night before that .. at around 5 ? someone called and when i picked up .. no one answered so i guess it was those thefts seeing if we were home . it really pissed me off

Re: breaking in and/or theft

hmm my house got broken into once, a guy climbed into our house through my downstairs kitchen window. he stole my mom's jewelery though.

another time a guy tried to break into my house through the sundeck which is connected to my parent's bedroom, luckily my dad was home and he saw the guy, so he jumped off the deck and ran away

then 2 years ago, my dad picked my mom up from work, and they were driving into the garage when this car pulled up into our driveway, and 2 guys got out. my mom and dad were still in the car, locked, but the door didn't go down yet so the 2 guys surrounded our car and they had a knife. my mom and dad didn't get out and one of the guys got really pissed off so he climbed ontop of the roof of our car. finally, since i guess they realized my parents would never get out, they left.

and 2 years ago, my locker got broken into at school. my ipod mini got stolen and they stole my wallet which had $300 (i was going to the bank afterschool). worst thing is, my vice principle didnt even try to do anything about it and yeah. that was lame =\
