laser hair removal?

Has anyone done laser hair removal? My mom says it's almost painless... from her experience. Does it hurt? Turn red? For how long? etc. etc. I basically want to know the general stuff. Do you have to be over a certain age to get it done?

I'm thinking:
- facial and possibly underarms

Also, what are some good places? Good as in do it only ONCE and get it over with (have the hair removed permanently), not multiple times as it is time consuming. I read in this old mallvibes thread that someone recommended: pacific dermaesthetics. Has anyone tried that place?

Thanks in advance! (I know I ask a lot of questions. :$)

Re: laser hair removal?

I don't think you can just get one laser treatment and have all of the hair permanently removed. You need to do multiple sessions to catch all of the hair and kill the cells from the root. It doesn't matter if the place is good, it's almost impossible to get rid of hair in one session. From what I've heard, if they do it right it should not hurt because they apply a cream of some sort. As for the redness, it varies depending on how sensitive your skin is. But if there is any redness it should disappear within a few hours.

Re: laser hair removal?

Yah, your hair grows in stages so you never have all your hair out at the same time. So you'll have to go a couple of times before it's all gone.

If that were true, I'd get it done in a heartbeat. Unfortunately it usually takes several visits and for some people it isn't permanent (it comes back in about a year).

Re: laser hair removal?

Dermal Laser! They're amazing.. if you're in Richmond go to the one in the health building, Dorothea is awesome.
I had my top lip done and I like it, the hair's reduced alot and I've only had two sessions 1 1/2 months apart. It's red for the day but I guess that depends on your skin type. It's around 70$ / session, so it's not horrible.

When you do go though make sure you haven't tanned, used Retin-A's, bleaching creams etc. on your face because they usually won't do it until after 6 months of stopping the use of those things. Good luck. =)

Re: laser hair removal?

Is it true that you have to shave the area that is being lasered?

miss.bee: How many sessions did you have to go through if you don't mind me asking?

Oh and are there any age restrictions?

Re: laser hair removal?

Sorry I haven't answered!

Missy: Yes you do have to shave the area before getting laser done, and I've done two and the hair barely grows back now so I think I'll just go for my third and then I'd be all done.

Fingers: There are no age restrictions but if you're under 18 you HAVE to have a parent with you to sign.. liabilities & all that. Dermal Laser is actually the place and Dorothea is one of the technicians. If you decide to go, PM me & I'll give you the number and you could tell her I referred you. And yes the hair is almost all gone after two sessions! I'm really happy with it.
