Nope, it's generally what you would wear for the top.

Re: Sizes

Different companies don't use the exact same measurements for dresses, but this chart should give you an idea. You are not likely to be a perfect match for any given size, so it's best to choose the bust size unless the dress is meant to be tight in the hips... in that case you would choose the dress size that fits your largest measurement. For example, if your measurements were 35-25-39 you would normally buy the size 6, but if it was a tight/ridgid dress you would buy the size 8 or 10 and then have the bust part taken in.

Re: Sizes

Usually each store has its own sizing chart.

No. All jeans and dresses are different. Some dresses run small, some run big. Same with jeans. it depends on your shape! My dress size is actually slightly smaller than my jeans size!

People who are pear shaped notice that jeans tend to be very tight on their really big thighs although they have very small chests, small shoulders and normal waist so dresses need to be quite small.

So ya, it depends on whether your top or bottom half is bigger. Dresses fit the top half more closely, so if you are smaller on top, you would have a smaller dress size and opposite.
