Re: Does anybody work at American Eagle, Zara, or Bluenotes? Experience..?

crap jobs! i have friends that have worked at AE, zara, and bluenotes (metro and PC locations). just as everybody else said, AE is super busy but the discount is good. zara is a hellhole for cleanup and it's super insane when it comes to summer and winter sales.

but aren't all retail stores a hell to clean up? i mean, of course people are gonna mess up the displays, so they need employees to clean it up

^yeaaah I hate FOLDED clothing the most... people always unfold them to see and then throw it back on the table and go away. And when they search for sizes they'll screw up te whole pile...
I dunno why people even bother with with it!!! It causes so much trouble, they should just hang everything... At work, I hate the folded clothing so much arrrggghhh

nah, i wouldn't say all. but considering that these are fairly popular stores in metrotown, the cleanup would be a more pain in the ass than say, nike, where i work at, where the volume of people there is probably 1/3 of what AE or zara gets. AE has tons of folded stuff and zara, a huuuuge store to work with.

popular retail stores + metro = craphole place to work (for me atleast)

Re: Does anybody work at American Eagle, Zara, or Bluenotes? Experience..?

hey i worked retail for a very long time - hated it

but i got into restaurant (started at milestones) and it was the time of my life. you dont need any experience (a smiling face, some energy, and the ability to talk to people always helps) as you can just start as a hostess.

i am no longer in either industry - but i would pick restaurant over retail in a second!! (plus you can move up to serving + make goood money)

What about AE at lougheed mall in Coquitlam/Burnaby?? It should be too busy right? Definetly not as chaotic as Metro?

You probably won't need a cover letter, but I think it's always a good idea to have one just in case and to get some practice in writing one. I've purchased a resume builder CD a few years ago and it helped me tremendously in writing an effective resume and cover letter. I don't remember what the name was, but they are all helpful. Good luck in your job search.

Re: Does anybody work at American Eagle, Zara, or Bluenotes? Experience..?

Whatever you do,
Don't work at AE. or retail in general.
Ive been working in retail for almost 6 months now. I thought it was a good idea at the time to apply at a retail store because of the discount for the cloth. DONT! sooo much work! and you get paid terrible! at the end youll get to hateeee cloth because of it.
After the mall usually closes we take about 2 hours to clean the store, the mess of people. And sometimes its actually disgusting. When I was running the fitting rooms one day, I found a used tampon left behind. I mean seriously?!
And also you get to deal with the weirdest people, Ive dealt with drunks, 40 year old perverts, angry moms, cheap people who always want discounts , etc. Ive had a drunk grab my ass once.
Please dont work at AE, or retail.

Re: Does anybody work at American Eagle, Zara, or Bluenotes? Experience..?

I would pick a restaurant job over retail....you'll make more money (higher wages or additional tips...and also you wont be tempted to buy so much clothing...I find that if i work in retail...i'll be tempted to spend spend spend since i get a discount too! xD) And I personally find it's...easier! And yes once you're 19 you can start serving (some restaurants let you serve earlier...you just cant serve alcoholic bevs, that's why some restaurants arent very excited about hiring a 16 year-old who'll need someone older to bring the alcohol out...why hire a 16 year old when you can just get a 20 year old to do everything!) But still hosting and even bussing you'll make good money and there's room for advancement if you plan to stay until you find a good career. I love my current job, the pay is pretty good (10$/hr plus tips!!) my managers are very flexible when it comes to scheduling and they're very understanding too!
