Re: writing first resume
hmm.. perhaps mention extracurriculars and school activities in your resume. It can be tough to write a resume w/o any relevant work or volunteer experience. Whenever I am applying for jobs, I do a quick search for tips and get lots of sample resumes.. like if you are a student, a recent graduate, etc.

what grade are you in? If you're in grade 10, you should have learned about writing resumes & cover letters in Planning 10 class

Name
Contact information Education Volunteer/work experience (yes, I know you don't have any, but you must have helped out at school with something? Bake sales, fundraising, etc.? Extra-curriculars Reference (you should always ask the person who you are going to put down as a reference if they feel comfortable giving you a good reference if asked. If you can't think of anyone right now, put "References available upon request".

Re: writing first resume
I worked at an employment centre for students and I really recommend that you go to ask them for help. They give free help on writing resumes and cover letters along with preparing for interviews. They have computers in the office and the staff can sit down with you and help you create a resume. Find your nearest office as listed on the website below. They are all over the place. Most of the students they help are just like you.
http://www.youth.gc.ca/yoaux.jsp?ta=...id=717&flash=1 As for not having a lot of work experience, not all resumes focus on work/volunteer experience. There are also ones that focus on work-related skills you may have. You can get useful skills from many things, for example - group projects at school may make you a good team player which is important in a lot of part time jobs. My advice is to look at the job you are applying for and to think about what the employer wants from his/her employees. Think about how you may have developed some of those skills throughout your life - they dont always have to be work-related. |

Re: writing first resume
For my objective I put something along the lines of "being able to gain valuable work experience within a dynamic atmosphere while still continuing my education". I looked on a lot of sites, if you just google 'resume helpers', you'd get a lot of good sites with helpful info :)

As for the newspaper delivery experience, there are plenty ways that you can make it sound interesting, such as relating it to your reliability (delivering papers consistently on time), your ability to be a team player (if you deliver with your friends), your ability to work under pressure and meet goals under a deadline (if you have many assigned locations to deliver). If you can relate all of these attributes to yourself with a positive and enthusiastic attitude, there aren't any jobs you can't get =) Remember to hand in the reference at the end, because that's the only way the employer can be certified that you will be a good employee. If you still don't know what to write, you can PM me what you have right now and I can enhance it for you =P |

Re: writing first resume
Oh hey, i work at COBS bread! well, the richmond location anyway.
I didnt put much, i just put my extracurriculars (foods courses that I took) and interests. My interview took less than 2 mins. They basically just asked why I wanted to work at COBS. |

Re: writing first resume
You can ask anyone who knows you for a reference. This could be a teacher or an athletic coach, or the parents of someone you babysit, or just a family friend. I think you can always put "References available on request" because most places won't bother calling them.
