tips for apply @ starbucks please
i'd like some tips for applying @ lougheed mall's starbucks please =] (ignore my typo in the title k?)
i'm 17, i volunteered for City of Burnaby for 3 years, and worked @ pne during the fair for 2 years now. what qualities do you I think should demonstrate to them? actually, more importantly i'd like to know if now (may) is a good time to apply for the position of a barista? i want to make sure the manager is there when I apply, r they always there? also...i don't want to line up just to hand in my resume, do u think it'll be okay if i just go to the side and ask the baristas if i can speak to the manager? n e thing helps, thanks guys! |

Re: tips for apply @ starbucks please
anytime is a good time to apply at starbucks!! but i find that just before school is the best time to apply because workers would be less available to work so more workers are needed. spring and summer... hmm... tough call. stores would need more people to work because it gets busier-- however, since school is out, lots of baristas open up their availabilities and prefer more hours
it really depends on the location you're applying at though, and how willing you are to work at another location if the first choice in terms of location is not really looking for new baristas. in addition, the hours you can hour/ your flexibility is important as well. you're 17, so you can't work past certain hours. are you available to work days? weekends? the more flexible/ available you are the better chances they'll prefer you over other candidates managers are not always in store. if you drop by and the manager is there and is not busy, you can ask a barista to ask if the manager is available to talk to you. ask the manager if that store itself is hiring-- and mention (if this is applicable to you) that you are willing to work at other burnaby locations as well and she might forward your applications to other stores in the area. there was recently a hiring fair for starbucks in richmond, there might be one for burnaby as well. ask the manager if there is one, and if it has already passed, and if not- can you attend. in the hiring fair, managers are already there conducting interviews on the spot. good luck!! |

Re: tips for apply @ starbucks please
definitely!!
or you can call ahead and ask when the manager is there, and inform the manager that you will be dropping by and ask if you can talk to her for a few minutes |

Re: tips for apply @ starbucks please
As vi13co said, it really depends on the location and the type of customers each store gets. Typically, all places would get pretty busy during the summer time cause 1) School's out, 2) Employees want to go on vacation, 3) Tourists. It also depends on what type of availability the store is looking for. The age thing is only a problem because if you're in highschool, you can't work past 9 on schoolnights or something like that. I worked at a downtown location when I was still in high school, and I had a few coworkers who were as well, so as long as you're 16 and can prove that you're mature enough to handle the job, I think you're good to go. Technically they are "always hiring" because there's always people coming and going, I think my ex-manager said that the average turnover rate was about 6 months. And yeah, make sure you get the manager's name and number so that you can call to follow up.

Re: tips for apply @ starbucks please
good luck pinkpeachz, i applied there a while ago but i didn't get a call back. probably because that's when i had no experience watsoever. LOL there's a high chance of you being hired because of your experience and volunteer work. and plus, you're 17, it sounds responsible =) haha

Re: tips for apply @ starbucks please
safeway itself for starting job is not bad... i guess but theres no discount off anything... and if u are full time they will scheme it so ur not considered fulltime so they dont have to give u the full benefits... but starting wage is pretty good...
but i mean the starbucks in safeway ... benefits are not the same as the benefits at starbucks say on the street... |

Yeah, Starbuckses in Safeways are licenced, so they're run by Safeway itself and not really Starbucks. Most of my friends work at Starbucks and most of them never had any work experience, so whether or not you have any shouldn't be too much of a problem since they have to train you for about nine shifts anyhow. =) |
