So what do you want your career to be?
Just out of curisoity, what do you guys want to be when you "grow up" ? You know what i mean, even if you are already all grown up. And if your in college or university, what are you striving to be ? And im talking career here, not job. in other words, something you want to do because you'd enjoy it and you wouldn't consider it a job, more like something you do that you like, yet you get paid !
I've always been really interested in becoming a dog trainer (either for the handicaped or house dogs), marine biologist, or zoo keeper but mostly a dog trainer. I can begin to persue my interest in dog training as soon as im out of high school but i'v just been debaiting whether or not it would truley be worth it in the long run (income wise) and although i indeed do LOVE animals, it just may be too risky. What are some other options i can look towards and has anyone had any experience volunteering at the SPCA or any animal shelter for that matter? by the way, I've found an animal obedience college that will teach you to become a professional dog trainer for only about $3,000 which is really quite affordable ! but how much income will i make anually? .. |

Re: So what do you want your career to be?
I am already a full time worker, but I don't exactly like my job. I always wanted to be an architect. Hopefully one day I'll go back to school so I can become one... for now I'm a drafter.

I've always wanted to get in to art since I was young, not the computer animation snazz but drawing and painting. But drawing portraits at Stanley Park don't make enough money to live on. haha

i think it would be interesting to being a logistics consultant/manager or perhaps something in retail merchandising.. both of which are completely different from what i'm currently pursuing/doing - becoming an accountant
maybe one day.. ![]() |

Re: So what do you want your career to be?
Great question! To be honest I never planned on being a business owner/wedding & event planner -but I am doing it and I love every moment of it...Well almost!
Sometimes this job can be challenging and it isn't as easy & glamorous as most people think, Thanks to the movies! However I was born entrepreneur and always knew I would eventually run my own company. In addition to that I am a very creative & artistic person. I often wondered what I would become but never thought it would be what I am now. When I started in this industry there was no course or book on how to become a wedding/event planner, everything I know is through experience...Eight years worth to be exact! I think although these courses provide some insight on the industry it really does not prepare you for the real thing...and the real thing means getting out there and actually doing an event. |

Re: So what do you want your career to be?
I just passed my bar exam and have about four months before I'm called to the bar to become a lawyer. I really like it so far, it's a good combination of mental challenges and working with people.
bebe2slick, if you love animals, why don't you become a veterinarian? You could work as a dog trainer while going through school. I don't think you would make much being a dog trainer unless you were very entrepreneurial and very good at marketing yourself. If you decided to pursue dog training right out of highschool, you might want to take a night school or langara course on running your own business to learn some marketing and business development tips. |
