Re: dairy queen
^ pretty sure it's $8 because this will be your first job. i don't think your age will be a big deal since you are going to apply in the summer and turn 15 in the summer. i got hired at dq/oj in pc when i was still 14 but had to get my parents permission or something. also they will probably need more people in the summer so there is a higher chance of getting in...

Re: dairy queen
I worked at a Dairy Queen for almost 4 years (disgusting I know). It was a decent first job because I learned a lot about customer service and interaction with the public, and you develop some what of a thick skin because some of the bullsh*t customers you get... but after awhile I couldn't take it anymore. I hated my boss. I think one of the reasons we hired young people was because they simply didn't know better in terms of their employee rights, and because we knew they had never held a job before, we could get away with paying them thee $6 training wage. Note that this might (and probably is) different with every location, because each Dairy Queen is an individual franchise.
Even though I was a supervisor and had to go through the same thing myself, I thought it was ridiculous because the job market is so competitive these days, yet he was really cheap and insisted on paying $6. By the time I left as a supervisor, I wasn't even making $10. If you apply and get this job, make sure you know your employee rights. That is, know how many break minutes you're entitled to per shift, your holiday pay, etc. Bombshell is right, lots of hiring is done in the summer time because that's when people are needed the most. However the hours are long, especially in the summer. If you're working at a location that serves hot food, it's horrrrible because it gets so hot in the back, you feel like you're about to pass out because of all the heat and hot weather I think most Dairy Queens close at 11 PM in the summer, but we wouldn't leave until past midnight because of cleanup. The one good thing I could say about having a job in the fast food industry is that you learn to appreciate customer service, and after that you'll come to understand what people in the service industry have to go through and you'll be much nicer towards other people because after all, it's what you had to go through! |

DUDEEEE I WORKED AT THAT LOCATION and i hated it. I work at blockbuster in that same square now and one of the guys who i used to work with, gives me a dirty look for ordering food. Any ways they hire 14 year old as long as you look the age. I started at $7 as a training wage (which was 2 years ago, i worked there a year ago any ways) but i think they're starting everyone at $8 because they're desperate for people (always have been actually ever since most of the old employees left.) But yeah.... any ways back then, they used to be so strick on uniform, like you can't wear any jeans or you have to wear black shoes, but when i go there i see girls with jeans on and girls working in boots . I used to know a lot dirt about the managers =x and the health inspector but i don't know if they improved it or not...and my co-workers omfg....all i can say is LG and spends more time on the phone than actually working during their shift. |

Re: dairy queen
thanks for the replies :)
i have no idea what it's called but YEAAAA, the one by blockbuster, starbucks and domino's is near too. i live closer to the one by kensington but i dont wanna work there because i know half my school goes there during summer. and they are snobby as shit. are they still desperate for people, LOL? i need a summer job but i can only do it after 1ish because i got summer school. $7/8 doesnt sound so bad to me. i just need cash, haha. and shit, i'd hate to have LGs as co-workers. i hope i actually get along with my coworkers and make some new friends. how's the manger there? |

yeah i suppose you can easily get along with them. I think they're the only ones who issues cheques, and you usually get them on wednesdays (unless tht changed too). Esp with two of the seniors..Carmel and Redan (aka peanut) I think they are because last time i saw them they had a "now hiring sign up". But yeah if you do get the job i may stop buy once and awhile and get food if i stick with blockbuster. |
