Working for CLOSE family friends... NAY or YEH?

Well i was talking to my bf's mom and aunt that i was gonna take up a second summer job to make some extra money for school. So they were really nice and offered me a job working for them. Pretty much the job is to watch over my bf's 80year old grandma that has some parkinson disease and alzeimers. The job would be few days a week, around 4 hours each shift. I would have to heat up her food (she put a metal pot in the microwave before), and call for help if she falls (she refuses to eat, so she fell a numerous amount of times) and take her out for a walk for some exercise...
and they mentioned about paying me $15 an hour in cash...

I want to take the job, but at the same time if i don't like it then i don't know what i would do. And i'm just worried that if something did happen to grandma on my watch, i would be in alot of trouble.... soo there's pros and cons...
what do you guys think?

hm...this is such a big responsibility

do u even like talking/hanging out with the grandma? <-- that could be the deciding factor..

i mean 4 hours is relatively short...and if u guys both watch tv together...time will go by fast.

his grandman speaks a dialect, lol so 99% of the time i don't understand her...
but she doesn't have a difficult personality
i mean i've known her for the past 4 years... like i see her at least once a month when we have dinner... so at least she knows who i am.. she tries to talk to me, but then i always have to get some one to translate... but my bf mom and aunt knows the communication issue and they don't think that's a problem..

Re: Working for CLOSE family friends... NAY or YEH?

and the reason why i'm thinking about accepting the job offer is because the pay isn't gonna be shabby... i was just thinking of going to apply for a superstore cashier position...

and for them i think they want me to work for them is because at least they know i'm a honest person i won't steal or do something stupid. cuz i would have to go over to my bf's aunt's house to watch over grandma

well u guys can always read magazines, newspaper, and tv shows together right? (well u bring english stuff to read and she can read her asian stuff lol) and maybe let her watch tv and u go in the kitchen and u can bake some cookies for her? lol i dunno..it seems like a chill job. and escort her to the washroom..up/down stairs...seems good =)

i say take it =)

yah that's what i was thinking too, i mean if the pay is gonna be $15/hour i can help out w. her laundry so she doesn't have to walk down the stairs... she doesn't need to be escorted to the washroom either, she can walk, around the house, but my bf's mom and aunt is just worried now cuz she's been getting into alot of accidents so they think it's time to hire someone to watch her, but not watch her like a hawk, but be there if she needs help

If you're good with people and have a lot of patience then I say take it. It will be a easy job. I would personally take it just because I lovee old people. =P

Re: Working for CLOSE family friends... NAY or YEH?

i just talked to my parents and they don't think i should take the offer
because just because of the relationship between my bf and his family.. when money is involved things can go sour...
i still don't know

Re: Working for CLOSE family friends... NAY or YEH?

yeah i agree with your parents. I wouldn't take the job
because its $60 a day right? what if they don't pay, should you ask.. or what if they just forgot.
and IF you ask.. it'd be awkard... if u know what i mean...

and soon they would think you should be doing it for free since its your bf's grandparents.
I know they might seem like oh yeah everything's finee =) they're glad to pay you etc etc
but if your really serious about your relationship i would rather not take that chance.
because in the end. from all my experiences.. people DO talk... -_-"
