Re: Posh Restaurant

I don't know where the kingsway one is, but the broadway one is actually really easy to get to lol . Just take the 9alma bus to burrard and cross the street. It has a really clean exterior look and right behind the bus station haha :)

Re: Posh Restaurant

I think it's right across from where Estea use to be. It's roughly the Gilley and Kingsway area.
Here's the address 105-6462 Kingsway, bby.

Re: Posh Restaurant

Someone's stated the burnaby address ^ and i should also mention that it's right next to K-mix if that helps.

kiwee, yup lunch menu is identical to dinner menu, but lunch is 9.88 whereas dinner is 13.88. Don't ask me why.. ^_^ So if you're craving sukiyaki, go at lunch time to get your money's worth. =-)

Re: Posh Restaurant

Location: bby on kingsway

Service: not the best, could be a bit faster (and i'm super patient)

My verdict: not authentic, but good value if you're a meat lover

Re: Posh Restaurant

Broadway Location

Service: good on some days, really slow on the next. First time I went this everyone was being very friendly, they knew it was our first time so they basically took care of everything and made sure we were okay. Although, they have problems designating people at tables. exactly 5 people came up to us and said, this is your last chance to order! It got kind of annyoying. Another time I went there..the wait wasn't necessary. There was an empty table and it took them about 30 mins to set up..the host who was SICK took..took his sweet time.

Food: Not bad for $13.88 all you can eat. However, the stuff for the hot pot is pretty average, nothing special. Theres beef, pork and the rest is just veggies & noodles stuff. Not bad going once in a while, but I would perfer going to Tomokazu for all you can eat sushi late night for about the same price.

Atmosphere: This was definitely one of their stronger points. The mood was great and there are flat screen TVs at every corner.

Overall Experience: It's a must try experience!

Re: Posh Restaurant

I've been to the Burnaby Location and W.Broadway locations. Our server at the Burnaby location was very ditzy (it was a guy). We were missing 2 settings and had to ask him 2 times and after I asked him the second time i watched him go to another table and get what they wanted and right away he went to talk with his co-workers and he totally forgot about what I had just asked him. Another time we asked him for water and we had to ask 3 times. I think we eventually asked the manager and he brought the water almost right away. We didn't complain about the service but i have to say the service at the Burnaby location wasn't great but compared to the W. Broadway location (food wise) was better.

The second experience was at the W.Broadway location. Our server was VERY annoying. She kept on making in-appropriate comments and was flirting with the guys from our table. One of my friends' girfirend couldn't come so he was sitting beside one of my other friends who was sitting next to her boyfriend (so she was in the middle of 2 guys) the waitress came by and said "So who's your boyfriend anyways?, looks like you have 2?"
OMG!! if my friends GF was there then she would've reamed the girl out becuase there were 5 of us so she would have had to sit across from her bf.. Totally innapropriate!! What if the 2 guys didn't know each other that well? It made my friend look like he was being "too nice" to the girl... the girlfriends boyfriend was embarrased becuase she said " this guy has his arm around your girlfriend.. you should take care of her" and he didn't have his arm around her.. he was just resting his arm on her chair. I felt bad for my friend becuase he's a really nice guy and the waitress be-littled him and made him look like a bad boyfriend. She also wrongly accused my other guy friend of the whole "arm around her" thing.. TOTALLY NONE OF HER BUISNESS!!

Our server kept on butting in our conversations too... That was VERY annoying!!!! half the time she didn't even know what we were talking about and she'd butt in like she knew and we'd look at each other like WTH is she talking about? my bf said that he saw her wiping a table and staring at her own reflection in the mirror and admiring herself while doing it.

this is not even the end of it. She came to our table with another waitress and told us that "it was the other waitresses birthday" like we were supposed to buy her a drink or something. My boyfriend thinks that maybe they had a bet to see if we would buy her a drink but when she said that everyone was so shocked at her un-proffesinalism that no-one even said "happy birthday" to her.. BTW it was my birthday my friends were smart enough not to tell our waitress that otherwise she'd be bugging us for another 10 minutes with some random story that would make no sense at all.

The last thing that she did that kind of pissed our table off was that she saw my boyfriend scopping out the oil (the meat was all fat anyways) with a ladle and she came by with a spoon and a bowl and started to scoop out our soup. WTF??!! why is she touching our food!!?? she started talking some random stuff about "this is her new invention" (what a spoon?) and then she started talking about something her boss said or did that morning then abrubtly stopped then started talking about something. But seriosly... we thought this girl was on drugs.. she was no proffesional at ALL!! we had to ask her about a couple times for another ladle, and also had to ask for more drinks and water for the sukiyaki...

to topp it all off I had "stomache problems" almost 15 mintues after eating and felt sick for almost the whole night afterwards.. I don't reccomend this place at all....its not worth the cheap $14.. i'd rather eat Mcdonalds (and i HATE mcdonalds)

My boyfriend thinks that maybe it was her last day of working there. Maybe she was going to quit. She did tell us "very randomly" about her an her co-workers playing "truth or dare" and that the winner had to drink a whole pot of the sukiyaki sauce at work and he thinks that maybe she lost and she had to act all slutty. All i can say is she should work in a "different" industry if this is what she enjoys.

I think I should move this to the Rant's thread

I don't know exactly what you "heard" about Posh or what was advertised to you, but i think maybe your expectations were a little much if you are making such a big deal about this "authenticity" thing. I mean this is Vancouver and we don't claim to cater to Japanese folks either. You have to consider the diverse cultural backgrounds of the people who eat out. If you really want authenticity, throw a piece of iron in your backyard and cook some meat on it. That's how sukiyaki was started. This is a restaurant though and its a business (duh!), so yes, we will market some ideas that stray from the original concept. For example, we tell every customer we serve ALBERTA grade A beef. (but thats not authentic!! it has to be from japan right?? puh-lease) Giving us flak for being unauthentic just because the workers aren't Japanese and because we threw in some extra veggies in the menu?? is a little far-fetched. I haven't been working here for long but i can tell you i have not seen a single canned vegetable. I don't understand where you come off knowing whether or not our vegetables are organic, but you shouldn't assume anything unless you have evidence to back it up.

Bumbley do you still work there? I'm sorry to be such a "restaurant critic" do they still serve "Alberta grade "A" beef?" because the beef we got was about 95% fat and 5% meat... our soup was almost made of all oil becuase the water and sukiyaki sauce boiled away...and at the end all that was left was a huge layer of oil.. I know they dont claim to be authentic but this is nothing like my mom would make at home or what they have in Japan but it was busy for a monday night and the "all you can eat" hot pot probably sounds good for a lot of people..

BTW, my bf just said he "doesn't feel good" now and made me promise we'll never eat there again (which is fine with me)... so yeah...
