canadian to american currency

So I will be going to the states soon and was wondering where I could get a good exchange rate.

Seriously this is my first time (usually just switch with my parents) so if the exchange rate is the same everywhere then please just bear with me =)

For example should I go to a currency store, bank, or just use my visa?
+ will there be any extra fees?

I bought money off my parents which was $500can for $506.50us... but that was like a few months ago...

Thanks in Advance!

Re: canadian to american currency

Well, if you have time I suggest you go to your bank, because they exchange at the current rate and shouldn't charge you fees. You could use your VISA but you should double check that they don't charge you anything extra in advance so you aren't saddled with crappy fees.

Re: canadian to american currency

I don't know about the fees and the visa thing but i know the canadian dollar and the US dollar is at par now. So $100 canadian is now $100 american.

Re: canadian to american currency

^^
it's definitely not at par... the canadian dollar is weaker now than it was a few months ago

yaohon i find has the best exchange rates

but i only exchange currency when i'm in a tight budget so i don't spend that much. i prefer using visa so i get points ;) although the exchange rate doesn't really work at our advantage

Re: canadian to american currency

USD-CAD rates:

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD></TD><TD></TD><TH style="COLOR: red; TEXT-ALIGN: left">13/08</TH><TH style="COLOR: red; TEXT-ALIGN: left">14/08</TH><TD></TD></TR><TR><TH class=box>1 USD (noon)</TH><TD>=</TD><TD class=box>1.0657</TD><TD class=box>1.0620</TD><TD>CAD</TD></TR><TR><TH class=box>1 USD (closing)</TH><TD>=</TD><TD class=box>1.0625</TD><TD class=box>1.0633</TD><TD>CAD</TD></TR><TR><TH class=box>1 CAD (noon)</TH><TD>=</TD><TD class=box>0.9384</TD><TD class=box>0.9416</TD><TD>USD</TD></TR><TR><TH class=box>1 CAD (closing)</TH><TD>=</TD><TD class=box>0.9412</TD><TD class=box>0.9405</TD><TD>USD</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

so as of Aug 14th, the exchange rate is 1 CAD = 0.9405 USD

Re: canadian to american currency

I get the employee rate currency change too because my mom used to work there but yeah... Your parents have you a good deal! usually its about 106.75 aprox. for 100 dollars. But inless they got a good deal. I've always done all my currency exchanges at Scotiabank... so yeah...

Today if you went to the bank and asked for 500 it would be around 532.40 which is a rate of 1.0648
And you can do it yourself anytime with any currency from this site =D

All banks have a buy price, a sell price and a middle price is the employee price. So they can not get the middle price inless you are someone who works there, has friends who work there or have family that does other wise your fees will already be int he price
