Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

It's almost summer and I'm looking for a summer part-time job after my provincials. I'm 17 and I have thought of a few places but I'm not sure what to decide. I'm a male and I live near Oakridge so the jobs at retail stores I have picked out have summed up to Aritzia, Godiva, EB games, and Quicksilver. I listed it in the order of the jobs I want to get but I'm not sure if I can work at Aritzia since I'm a male with relatively no real job experience only volunteer experience. I also wonder what types of clothes a male employee has to wear and what are the employers at Aritzia looking for. If anyone knows any other good locations/jobs to work at as a part-time employee please tell me.
Another question is do I have to be homosexual (it's what I've been hearing)? because I'm not.
Thanks

A few of my friends work at J2. I never thought of HMV and I think i should try to apply there. As for unisex i kinda want to work at Guess in Downtown but i dont have that many of there clothes and from what i hear they hire older people ~19 with job experience (which i dont have)? I also want a job where i can learn more skills because i plan to go into the business field lol

Re: Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

i've seen a guy work at aritzia. i think his name is fred or something. i usually see him wear skinny jeans and a top. there arent' any guy clothing there, but yeah... what is the reason you want to work there anyways? you have to like their clothing and all of that... and if you are there for the girls, that wont cut it. if not and you still want to work there i suggest you be a security gaurd for them. they are probably hiring for that too since summer is coming up.

Re: Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

You do not have to be gay to work at lady's clothing shops. If you worry about what other people thinks, you are not suitable for the job in the first place. In fashion and arts, it's all about being bold and provocative. That being said, if you are really into fashion and have a awesome sense of style, go ahead and apply at Aritzia. They do not require previous retail experience (and you only have to be 16), so as long as you can convince them that you are a quick learner, great stylist and will make a good addition to the team, it'll be fine. Bring your resume and cover letter (a must!) to the store now, since they already started their summer hiring couple weeks ago.

If you just want a part time job, Aritzia is actually not the best place to go, as it's very intense and high pressure (EB games are also very stressful). In comparison, Godiva, Quicksilver and HMV are all very chilled, and should be much better choices.

Re: Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

aritzia is very selective of the people they hire. they don't hire people with less than one year retail experience (except in some cases it might be different).
if you don't have retail experience, it'd realistic to tell you to not aim too high. after all you might apply to all those places and not getting hired at any. i have more than 1 yr retail experience but still some companies won't hire me =)

getting a job is not easy. and i think u learn best by going to applying to various companies out there instead of believing that they will hire you as long as you apply....the reality is cruel.

Re: Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

Well I'm not there for the girls. I just heard Aritzia is very competitive and a lot of quotas must be met (not sure if this is true). The funny thing is I actually want to this job because of the competitive level. I think I would be a great addition to their team (male perspective). The thing I'm mostly concerned about is the style, like what I must wear. I doubt i can be a security guard ... and I like "most" of their clothes but some I find very repetitive. I will try to apply for HMV and I'm wondering should I apply now for a job in July or apply later on. The thing is that I have provincials and wont be able to work during June at all. Also curious if I get the job would I still get discount for family/friends.

Re: Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

Apply now. It will be too late to apply in June. If they like you, they can always figure something out for you. As for the discount thing, I am not sure what you meant. Discount policies vary by store, and it should be the last thing you need to worry about.

Re: Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

My sister is one of the managers at an aritzia. I can ask her about it. It is great that you are looking for a competivite job. I think that if you apply at any store that gives commission to their employees will be a bit more on the competitve side. i agree with all the other posts below. you should start looking and applying now for jobs. make sure you like that place and know what you want...

don't worry about your job experience.. volunteering is great. Hey you have to start somewhere right?

Re: Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

Nice website, Aquarius .. You were on the "People you might know" on my facebook. LOL.

ON TOPIC: Artitza may not be the best place to apply at, but get more experience in retail and maybe come next year?? I'm sure other retail stores would accept you? Like, Quicksilver, etc.

Re: Summer Job Advise Please (Aritzia)

Sorry to stray away from the original question, but I want to work at either Garage or Jacob, but I have no retail experience whatsoever, and I've only had one summer job before. Do you think they'll hire me?

Do you know any other places that will hire without retail experience or much experience at all for the summer?
