if you go around i think...main and 12th? I'm not sure but it you bus down around main to where Smoking Lily, Front and Company, Twigg and Hottie and all those little boutiques, there are tons of places to check out it's worth a try and they're way nicer.

Re: dress stores!

Ooh, I saw a store at Broadway and umm, two streets west of Arbutus. It had lots of different dresses in the window. Could have something one of a kind. It's in a weird location next to a coffee shop called Higher Grounds.

Also, Winners has TONS of dresses right now from Laundry, ABS Allen Schwartz, Pucci, etc. They have a designer sale on.

Re: dress stores!

Trendy Styles
Interested in the most popular dress styles for the prom season? If you are hoping to be the belle of your ball or queen of the court, take a look at some of these newest trendy styles.

Bright, Bold Colors
The light pastels and washed-out whites of past proms are out, and this year it’s time to stand out and shine in a bold color. Not only are bright colors eye-catching and attention grabbing, they also tend to draw out attractive features and bring color to the face. Bright oranges, pinks, and yellows will definitely be present in the prom court this year. If you are not quite ready to stand out completely in a bright colored dress, try adding a colorful sash, pareo, or other accent to your prom dress to jazz up your style.

Star-Studded Gowns
Sequins, rhinestones, beads, and jewels are all the rage this season. A dash of glittery extras is the easiest way to add some terrific style to a plain dress. Plus, nothing catches the light and draws eyes like flashy jewels. A sparkly tiara is the perfect accessory to a star-studded gown. This year, indulge all of your princess dreams with a bejeweled prom dress.

Hollywood Style
If you have ever caught yourself drooling over a stunning dress on your favorite Hollywood actress, this is the year for you. The hottest dress styles from the red carpets are making their way into high school proms throughout the country. As you watch the A-list celebrities at award shows this year, take down notes on your favorite dresses and see if you can’t replicate the fashions with your very own diva-style prom dress.

Wedding Dress Trains
You may have been planning your wedding since you were six years old, but this is the year to get a real taste of the matrimonial glamour. Prom dresses are including trains of all lengths for sensational style. Choose anything from a small duster to a full-length chapel train and have your date treat you like true royalty. Nothing says prom queen like an attendant carrying your train.

Short, Full Skirts
If you have ever dreamed of being a prima ballerina, this trendy dress is definitely the style for you. To find this style, you will want to look for dresses with knee-length, poufy skirts and snug bodices. The tight bodice will show off your beautiful waist and upper body while the full skirt is flirty and fun. For extra party style, look for a dress with a tulle overlay in the skirt.

Feathery Details
Dresses with feathered or lacy details on the skirt or bustline will be taking the prom court by storm this season. Feathery details are a funky alternative to sequins or other, more classic niceties and they are a perfect complement to your own unique style. Look for a feathered gown with an asymmetrical, ruffled hemline for an edge over the style competition.

Tie-Dyed
You know you secretly loved the casual, devil-may-care look of tie-dyed t-shirts when you were a little girl. Luckily for you, the tie-dyed look is back and it’s not just for t-shirts anymore. You can find prom dresses in a literal kaleidoscope of colors for every body type and shape. If you like the idea of a tie-dyed gown, wear strappy gold or silver sandals with your dress to step your style factor up a notch.

Asymmetrical Hems
If you can never quite make up your mind between a short skirt and a floor-length ball gown, why not go for both this year? With a high-low cut dress (high in front, long in the back), you can have a dress that both sweeps the floor and shows off your sexy legs. You can be sure that all eyes will be on you in this unique, flattering style.

We are sure that one of the styles above will be perfect for your prom this season. Still, it is important not to choose a style simply because it is trendy and popular. Be sure to choose a style that complements your own personal taste and comfort. There is nothing more beautiful or stunning than a girl who feels comfortable in her own skin.

Accessories For Your Prom Dress
Once you have your prom dress, shoes, and hairstyle selected, accessories will add the final touch to a stunning prom ensemble. Check out our ideas below for the most fashionable and fun prom purses and jewelry.

Prom Purses
A stylish purse not only serves to keep all of your essential items with you and together; it can also be a fun addition to your prom outfit. The most popular purse styles for formal events are the clutch and handbag. You will find many different purses in each of these styles that will add that final bit of fashionable flare to your outfit. However, keep these tips in mind while shopping:
  • A clutch is very cute and fashionable, but, because it does not have a handle, one hand is always occupied with it. If you plan on doing a lot of dancing or want to have both hands free, consider checking your purse at the door or choosing a style with a handle.
  • Your prom purse does not have to exactly match the color of your dress. In fact, if you’d like to draw more attention to your dress and to yourself, look for a purse in a contrasting yet complementary color. For example, a silvery rhinestone purse with a black dress is very chic.
  • An evening purse is often much more extravagant than an everyday purse. When looking for your prom purse, feel free to choose a purse with plenty of extras (ribbons, feathers, jewels, etc.); this type of purse will be a perfect complement to your prom dress.
  • Remember to buy a purse large enough to hold your essential items. Your purse should have enough room (at minimum) to hold your I.D., some extra cash, your prom tickets, your cell phone, lip gloss, a small powder compact, and breath mints or spray.
Prom Jewelry
The jewelry you choose to wear with your prom dress depends entirely upon your own personal taste and the style of your prom dress. If you like flashy jewelry and lots of it, feel free to dress yourself to the nines on prom night. If you generally shy away from too much jewelry, a simple necklace and pair of earrings should be enough to jazz up your look. For the right look with your jewelry, keep the following tips in mind:
  • Overall, rhinestones are the most popular choice for prom night jewelry. They are very elegant and add the perfect dressed-up look to your prom style. If your dress or shoes contain rhinestones, remember to look for rhinestone jewelry in the same size and shape for a perfectly pulled-together look.
  • The length and style of your necklace should depend upon the neckline of your prom dress. If your neckline drops low or plunges, look for a long necklace to decorate bare skin in your neck and chest. If your neckline is high, choose a shorter necklace style (such as a choker) to offer equal play to both the necklace and dress.
  • Remember to decide on your prom hair style before you purchase earrings for your prom dress. If you are wearing your hair up, feel free to wear large, dangly earrings. If you are wearing your hair down, look for hoops, large studs, or other styles that will not get tangled in your hair.
  • If it complements your dress and your personal style, wear a tiara on prom night. You may never get the chance to legitimately wear princess attire again, and you do not want to waste it.

Re: dress stores!

The Right Bra for Your Prom Dress
With all the attention focused on selecting the right prom dress, finding the right bra to accompany that dress frequently takes a back seat. Prom dresses often require specialized bras for the right look, and your regular department store bra will likely not make the cut. If you’re not sure what type of bra you should be wearing on prom night, look for your dress style below to find the perfect accompanying bra. Then, check out our tips for determining your bra size (you may just be surprised by your true size).

Strapless or Bandeau: A strapless prom dress generally requires a strapless bra to accompany it. Look for a bra that includes boning in the band and the sides of the cups. The boning will support your breasts without the help of shoulder straps. You may also want to look for a bra with adhesive strips to help keep the cups in place.

Plunging Neckline: Plunging necklines are very sexy, but they can make wearing a bra difficult. For the right look in your dress, find a demi-cup bra with an underwire and extra padding to enhance your cleavage. Be sure to bring your prom dress in with you when you are trying the bra on. You do not want any bra cups peeking out from under your dress on the big night.

Backless: If you are wearing a backless prom dress, you will need to look for a strapless, bandless bra. Because the bra has no straps or band to support your breasts, be sure that it contains adhesive tabs on the cup linings to secure it. A bandless bra will offer you support without ruining the image of your naked back.

Silhouette Hugging: If your dress hugs curves in all the right places, you might want to wear a full-torso bra. Look for a bra in a thick, tight microfiber that extends all the way from your breasts to your hipbones. The bra will smooth out your curves and keep you looking sexy and slender in your dress.

Halter Neck: A halter prom dress requires a halter bra for the right appearance. Look for a bra with adjustable straps that extend around your neck, rather than over your shoulders. The bra straps should be thin enough to slide under the straps of your dress for a completely hidden look.

Re: dress stores!

THANK GOD someone posted this. Everyone's already getting their grad dresses and I JUST started looking. I went to the After Five on Howe and Dunsmuir today... selection was not that great since the store's so small. I'm probably gonna hit up Oakridge sometime though.

There are also a couple stores in Metro but the dresses there are so yucky. (for me atleast)
