Now that you're more familiar with the origins of Halloween, here are a few events to hit this week:

MONDAY OCT. 30
Haunted House at Barclay Manor: Get spooked in a real haunted house. Not for the faint of heart, this tour is for youngsters ages six and over. Drop in between 7 and 9 p.m. at Barclay Manor (1447 Barclay St.), tickets are $3. Call 604-257-8333 or go to for more info.

TUESDAY OCT. 31
Are you a little critter in Coal Harbour? Check out the Lil' Critters Boo Bash & Trick-or-Treat Trek for creepy crafts, terrifying treats, eerie entertainment and the second Annual Trick-or-Treat Trek - meet at the Coal Harbour Community Centre (480 Broughton St) at 3:30 p.m. Tickets: $5 per child. For info and registration, call 604-718-8222 or go to

- Attention downtown trick-or-treaters: Going door to door in a high rise just doesn't have the same feel, does it? Head outside and hit up small business owners for treats on a guided route presented by the Yaletown Business Improvement Association and Roundhouse Community Centre. Meet at the Roundhouse at 3:30 p.m. for a trick-or-treating parade through Yaletown at participating merchants.

- For big kids only: Follow engaged couple Janet Weiss and Brad Majors into the arms of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, his creation Rocky Horror and the rest of his Transylvanian crew at the Ridge Theatre's midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Tickets are $7 at or the Ridge (3131 Arbutus St.).

- The Commodore Ballroom (868 Granville) transforms into a haunted house for a Halloween Masquerade - but you'll have to be costumed to get in. Best costume wins $10,000 cash, and a trip to Mexico is also up for grabs. Doors at 8 p.m. Tickets $34.50 at Ticketmaster.
