A SIM card is basically a very small card that fido/rogers users have when they first get their phone. The card can be used like a memory stick and can be transferred between different phones as long as the phone belongs to the company you originally signed with.It basically stores all your numbers so you don't have to go through the tedious task of re-inputting every single person you know on your new phone. For example, a fido SIM card will work on ANY FIDO phone but will NOT work on Rogers' phone, such as the new IPHONE.
Fortunately, our lovely brothers and sisters in Asia (and Richmond lol) have "unlocking" services in which a Rogers phone (for example) can be "unlocked" from Rogers to be used with a FIDO SIM card.
This works vice versa as well. Companies such as Koodo or Telus have a very limited selection of phones for their customers because there is no "SIM card" to unlock. They simply have a phone, you buy it, if you break it or lose it.... you buy another phone and pay for them to transfer the service on to the new phone. On the other hand, a Fido customer who breaks their phone can just borrow a friends old junk Fido phone, stick their card in it and continue life.
Yes this is very wordy :b hope it helps though!!!
