    Gap Sprize

Don't be fooled by Gap Sprize. I signed up for the card at the Coquitlam store last week. I thought - I rarely shop at the Gap, but when I do, who wants to come back and get a price adjustment; so I signed up. I also bought a pair of jeans. So the next day, I get an email "Friends and Family 30% off coupon" for Gap/Old Navy and Banana Republic. I went into the Richmond store today to get them to honor the coupon. Well....they no longer do price adjustments. So I said, well, return the jeans and I'll rebuy them with my coupon. The cashier says: we need to keep the jeans in the back for 24 hrs for "processing". So I returned them, furious at this point. The jeans were brand new, tags still on! So I asked to see a manager. After explaining the situation, she says "we need the 24hrs processing time, to retag blah blah blah". After I explained, they haven't been worn, ALL tags are still on it and it is the only one in my size, she gave me the "I'll do it this time, but it's the exception...." speech. Does anyone else see a flaw here?!? Their whole new strategy is based on Price Adjustments! Call it whatever you want, but to the consumer it's clear as day that this is a last ditch effort for the Gap to gain the market share they've lost, b/c of their same old same old merchandise that is too expensive for just basics. So I asked one of the employees if I would have got credit for the 30% off on my Sprize card, had I not come in? Well, NO, b/c it's not a markdown. So I started to read the fine print of the program...here's what they don't tell you: Expect to wait 7 WEEKS to get a credit on your card, only if it is a MARKDOWN. Then there is a bunch of vague wording that not all sales are considered "markdowns"; that it's up to their discretion what is a markdown. Gift with purchases or buy one get one offers don't count as a markdown. So here is a prediction: Expect to see more buy one get one offers at the Gap, b/c I can't see how they'll be able to survive if their doing credits all the time when items go on sale. And we all know...everything at the Gap gets marked down. Also in the fine print: they reserve the right to have exclusion on what merchandise can be purchased using your Sprize credits! So a word to all shoppers out there: Don't fall for the Gap Sprize. The only Sprize is on them, when they realize that shoppers are too smart to fall for this crap!

    Re: Gap Sprize

Sprize time is 45 days; you get the price adjusted to the LOWEST price in those 45 days. So it's not "7 weeks" just cause the Gap likes to drink coffee and play Wii while you wait for your Sprize money.

technically you're not allowed to return something & buy it back w. a coupon. if the item was in the store still and your size was still there then ya, but if you have the last one or whatever, technically theyre not allowed to let customers return and buy back w. a coupon

markdowns are considered things that are clearance, basically something that will stay that new price or even go lower, not a promotional price. things like buy 1 get 1 are promos, same with random weekly promos etc. the sprize program works in your favour if something ends up going to clearance, not if something is promotionally priced for a week/there is some sort of promotion in store.

I can understand how the fine print seems like a turn off. Anything in legalese is. From a business standpoint the offer is actually clever considering the economy. (I wrote an on this offer recently and discussed the marketing/business implications would love to hear your thoughts!) To apply the price guarantee on store offers such as buy one get one free would reduce the campaign's value and return on investment for the company.

    Re: Gap Sprize

I worked in retail and i hate the marketing. Coz it only cause me more problem with people who wanted a price adjustment with the promotion. But i always let them do the price adjustment for a customer service thing. Its kinda win loose situation. You win if you say no to the customer and you loose a customer too. I just wish they be more careful with their marketing strategy coz it created a headache for people who worked. Company always has their best interest not the customers..i know that for sure. Not even the employees best interest. I feel you in this one.

    Re: Gap Sprize

What a stupid promo! I was pestered to sign up by staff when I went in. luckily they didnt have what I wanted but i dont know if the item they sold me will drop in price. other places will do a price adjustment for merchandise without some sign up so why do i need to sign up with my info? why not just have a discount card or a SALE!

Yup. Sorta saw that one coming as well. I seldom shop at GAP, but it is still nice to know about the 24 hr policy thing.

    Re: Gap Sprize

They're really pushing this program omg. I went into the GAP today and I got approached twice asking me if I've heard about sprice and they already had that machine that delivery guys have ready to enter info. I know that the company isn't doing well but it was actually a bit of a turn off.

And I'm also not liking the new PC Gap, there's no space in there.
