Okay, so today I went to apply for seasonal Aritzia. Right when I got in, I asked .. where do I go to apply for seasonal Aritzia? One sales representative, points me towards a lady at the counter. As soon as I see her, I knew I was not going to get any calls or application form from her! (A couple months back, I asked to exchange a pair of jeans for a different size .. not a big deal! She wouldn't let me, because I got them discount through a friend. I kept saying, it was a gift. But she didn't believe me & called my friends boss to tell on her. She wouldn't even let me return the pair of jeans after that! She told me I had to go to the Coquitlam one to exchange.) ANYWAYS. Thats not the point! So, I go up to her, asking NICELY and politley .. and this is how it went:
ME: Hi, I'm here to apply for Seasonal :) HER: Sorry, we're not really looking for anyone and I don't have any application forms. ME: Oh really? Because I have friends at Aritzia, that told me they always need help.. but just for seasonal HER: Oh. Well, who are your friends? ME: Um _________ & _______ . HER: I see. Well, I'm not hiring, I have enough staff members right now. Wait, do you have any experience? ME: Yeah & (then my friend tells her, her experience .. we applied together) HER: (TOTALLY INTERUPTING WHAT WE'RE SAYING) Sorry, but I don't think I'm hiring. If you do get hired, you'll be working late shifts. Probably to midnight. (When I heard this, it sounded as if she was trying to make it unappealing.) ME: Thats fine. I can handle that! HER: Mmm, I see. Well, yeah, I'll call you if anything comes up. ME: Well, thanks. It really made me upset! What retail store, doesn't have an application for a job? Or does that happen a lot? Cuz' I've asked many retail stores before, and they've all had one handy. Also, she sounded like, instead of telling me herself, that she didn't want to hire me .. she tried to make it sound unappealing. Which, didn't really work .. cuz' it sounded like an experience for me. I found it, totally rude how she was trying to make it sound unappealing though haha! She could of atleast given me a chance, instead of pushing me away .. because of a jean situation - which she, so easily made a big deal. :@:@:@:@ ! I was so upset! Later on, I talked to my friend that works at Aritzia .. and even she agreed it was wrong. Cuz' ALL Aritzias are hiring for seasonal, or atleast looking for extra employees. My friend told me to apply at the Metrotown one, since she knows its hiring. But its just too far! Haha. Yeah, I just had to get it off my chest. It was bothering me. SORRY ABOUT THE LONG READ! ![]() PS: Have you ever had something like this happen to you? & Can the FLOOR manager, even make those types of decisions? Isn't it up to the head office thing? LOL. I was so disappointed. I'd been waiting for this for a long time and she won't even give me a chance!:( Last edited by alexandrabell. : 05-30-2008 at 10:37 PM. |

Re: Rude managers!
no. this hasn't happened to me, but if you and a friend went together =/ that's like a "don't do when applying for jobs.".
well about your situation, i don't know what to say, except the manager was kind of unprofessional. |

Re: Rude managers!
Oh really? Well .. it was just seasonal, so I didn't think it was a big deal to go in with a friend. And she didn't really pay any attention to my friend anyways. She kept interupting what she was saying.

Re: Rude managers!
the discount thing: it isn't really up to the manager. i work @ staples, and if you got a discount through a different store, we can't accept returns or exchanges because you recieved that discount from a diff store. it's how it works. so maybe that was the reason why she couldn't exchange it for you.
floor managers can make decisions if they wanted to. and i mean if they have enough employees then they have enough employees. you can't really push them to hire more people eh...

Re: Rude managers!
wow, i really feel for you. that was intimidating! but then again, it's aritzia. i think they're the types of stores who are very picky with who they are hiring, and can be a bit pretentious?
don't worry about it. it'd be hard putting up with a manager with that sort of attitude. good luck with the job hunting! |

Re: Rude managers!
Haha I somewhat had a manager like that.. she talked about how the job (i was applying for) looks easy but theres alot of detail work, constant changes, and pressure of multitasking and getting things done under a deadline..
But she wasn't rude about it. The Aritzia manager sounded rude, if they were truely not hiring why would she stop and say "wait, do you have experience?" But like Annie said, I learned that going together with a friend isn't something you should do when applying for any job. lol yeears ago, I went with a friend to hand out resumes, the FIRST store we went into the manager decided to grill us and popped a few interview questions. And of course being inexperienced and young with no previous job/interview experience we were stumbling...it was quite embaressing and to top it off she condescendingly finishes with, "Oh, and just a word of advice, don't ever go in stores together when you apply for jobs." haha we were quite dispirited afterwards.. |

Re: Rude managers!
aww, that's not nice to hear :( actually, the times i've applied for jobs, i've always gone with a friend! and i always got hired. luckily, for one of my jobs with an on site interview, i was alone. it would have been awkward with a friend there.

Re: Rude managers!
i think going with your friend was not a good idea. even if it's seasonal because she probably thinks that you two will talk more to each other rather than work.
also since you got a discount from your friend she probably has a bad vibe. at aritzia workers are not allowed to give their discounts to anyone else (except for like family and friends night). she probably knew what was happeneing because it happens alot there... -- a bit off topic: my sister use to work at clinique at the bay and she got like 10% anything so i used her card once (she was there and actually paied for the item) and then she got fired because supposably that's stealing. now she works at aritiza (hopefully it's not her bececause she is the type to say that and she is a manager) and she won't even let me use her discount on anything... only on like birthdays or special occasions she will buy me something from there. i don't know if floor managers are able to make the decision to hire you or not, but they sure do have a say in what they think.they are the floor manager and they are part of running the floor and the sales people.

Re: Rude managers!
ouch, that really sucks! but hey, working at Aritzia isn't as great as it sounds. i've worked there before and personally i wouldn't go back again unless i really needed the money. there are other places that are hiring and can probably offer u a much better/friendly working experience.

I stopped in Aritzia West Vancouver, BC Friday afternoon. I was looking for True Religion Brand jeans. Aritzia salesgirl said they no longer carried that brand and she revommended others. I had 2 pairs of jeans to try on. The salesgirl then opened a drawer with purses and pointed to my purse. I said I am not parking my purse and I was insulted. The salesgirl said it was OK and pointed to the drawer explain ing they had big problem with theft. I said I was not going to shop there. She continued to protest. I said fine and dandy but I was not going to do that.
I wonder what they do if items are missing from the purse? This store is overpriced and has very poor customer relations. They do not deserve any customers. ![]() |
