Good Japanese Restaurants

I have found a new Japanese Restaurant thats really good and worth the wait. It is called Toshi Japanese Restaurant on Main and 16th. The prices are reasonable and the portions are filling. The first time going there was really interesting. They were very busy and I went there with a friend of mine. We shared a table with another couple, but we all didn't mind. They were that busy and we arrived about 30mins after 5pm. And I heard a while ago that people are already lined up before they open at 5pm. So you know it is that good. I tired their veggie and seafood gyoza and chicken Teriyaki Don (prepared differently than other Japanese Restaurants). Man it was so good and the service was really good. The food came out quick. So after that I told most of my friends about it and I have gone there a couple times now and its still worth the wait.

Yes I do believe so. Because all the servers and the people behind the sushi bar speak Japanese....

Re: Good Japanese Restaurants

there are quite a few in downtown..
ones called happa izakaya.. (izakaya is like tappa)
they got great food and the restarurant itself
is pretty nice and im pretty sure ull enjoy it.
if u guys lookin for place to eat sushi..
its not the best place to go to though.

i also like kitanoya guu
theres one on robson, thurlow and waterfront.
i went to the one on water street couple days ago
and they got the best food ever!
i luved it so much u guys better try goin there.
again, its not the best place to go and eat sushi.

since im ***.. i prefer restaurants dats owned by ***
only because they taste different than the ones owned by
koreans or chinese and the ones owned by koreans or chinese
are usually sushi restaurants.... so yea..

different food, but definately good food dats for sure!
so u guys probly wanna try goin those places..

hmm...but Richmond has lots of Chinese-owned/operated *** places that aren't that good

From my experience, only Japanese-owned/operated japanese restaurants offer the freshest & most dainty sushi (b/c most of them use WILD salmon and not the farm-bred ones) e.g. Shiro on Cambie (diagonally across from Tropika)

Re: Good Japanese Restaurants

BEST PLACEs TO EAT SUSHI BY FAR:

1) Sushi king - Granville st @ 67th ave.
Excellent service, jumbo size sushi/sashimi, extremely fresh. Family own business and really friendly. It's like Samurai on Cambie but better and tastier by 10 folds. and very cheap prices too.
must have:
- spicy tofu (crispy outside but soft inside with very good spicy sauce on the side)
- appetizer sashimi (tuna and salmon) - largest in town!
- appetizer tempura - for the price of 4.95 you get 4 prawns and 2 yam! extremely good sauce home made!
- spicy salmon hand cone/roll - oozing with salmon goodness

2) Sushi Cafe - Downtown on Seymour st @ Georgia
Authentic japanese owners and sushi makers. TONS of combo and bento boxes to choose from. definitely good for office workers, although pre-ordering by phone is a good idea since they get very busy. Not HUGE rolls but VERY VERY FRESH and tasty. Service is excellent and very accomodating (ie.. had cali roll on their daily special combo, and i hate cali roll and asked if they can change it to something else, and they didn't even hesitate. only pay the difference of prices). Just thinking of this place makes me want to go back
Must haves:
- beef/chicken teriyaki - best in town! freshly prepared, not yucky old beef
- spicy tuna roll - they add crunchy batter in it to give it extra texture.

Re: Good Japanese Restaurants

A nice authentic Japanese-owned restaurant which I often frequent is Hachi. They serve up the freshest fare in the Lower Mainland. They open everyday except Mondays. Highly recommended.
