restaurant in richmond?

I'm looking for a nice fine dining chinese restaurant in richmond, not just a fancy one, but one that actually serves good portions along with taste. Does anyone know of a decent place that gives you your money worth?
I'm trying to stay away from kirin, or sun sui wah, floata...etc..but I want the place to be clean ie. i don't have to wipe off my chopsticks before use or change half of the plates due to stuck on foods..lol
I'm looking for one for sunday night to bring my family to because it's my mom's birthday. I was going to go to Grand Honour on Granville street in Vancouver, but I don't know how safe the water is so i opted for somewhere in richmond.
Anyone one with sugggestions to chinese restaurants they love to go eat please let me know
oh and btw, the price range is about $200-ish for about 6-7 people.
THANKS

Re: restaurant in richmond?

Sorry but you won't get any fine dining establishments on 200-ish for 6 to 7 guests. Try 300-ish for fine dining. If you want to avoid Sun Sui Wah and Floata, try Shiang Garden. Nice white high ceilings with chandeliers. That's where my friend had his wedding banquet at.

I heard shiang gardens is good, but i don't want to spend that much, any place under 300? doesn't have to be fine fine, but nice, not shabby.

Re: restaurant in richmond?

I'd have to second Shiang Garden. I suppose if you want upper-mid-range, Gar Lok on...is it Capstan Way? (same complex as Richmond Sushi)...is pretty good but the decor is unparalled to Shiang Garden - I think that's the highest end fine-dining restaurant you'll find in Richmond.

Re: restaurant in richmond?

There's one chinese restuarant called " Xiao SzeChuan " which serves very spicy food. The quality of the food is great. However, the food usually takes pretty long to be served as there're plenty of people there. So don't eat there when you know you're starving ;)

What about Fisherman's Terrace in Aberdeen Centre? I am not sure about the price, i guess it's a bit pricey, but the food is definitely good and clean. The atmosphere is ok too. Shiang Garden wins looks-wise though.
