When your friends buy the same thing as u =P

What do you do when your friends go out and purchase the exact same item as you.. and they know you have it already?

Sometimes i'm okay with it if they ask first, and not just show up wearing the exact samething =) but i just think it's annoying when just buy it with out telling you or they'll say "oh i didn't know you have it" when u've already wore it and they've seen it!

I take it as a compliment when a friend buys the same thing, just says we have the same taste in things...

I'll say that it doesn't matter and I don't care even though it kind of bothers me a little but whats the point? Its not like I can tell them to never wear it again. I'd rather lose whatever me and my friend both have then lose my friend.

Re: When your friends buy the same thing as u =P

i don't think it matters...unless they're hotter than you. lol

one of my coworkers is i swear, my TWIN or something. we like the exact same things, same style, same clothes! it's annoying and funny at the same time. like, one time we bought the same guess top from off the wall, same size and everything. then i bought these awesome boots from aldo and she was like "YOU BITCH! i wanted those boots!" ahhaha it's pretty funny.

Re: When your friends buy the same thing as u =P

Hmm yeah I agree, it's okay when they ask first, but I'll admit that it still bugs me. I have know this girl who always thinks that I copy her when she doesn't even own what I'm wearing. For example I came to school one day with new boots (she doesn't even wear boots!) and she's like "Omg! I can't believe you bought those boots, I've wanted them for so long blabhaba," but it's like yeah, how was I supposed to know that? I don't even hang out with you. And this same girl always buys what other people own, or what she knows people want. Like one time she was at OTW with my other friend who saw this sweater she wanted. She tried it on and everything but didn't have the cash to buy it, so she can't go defending herself by saying she never saw her have any interest in the sweater. But long story short she comes to school the next day wearing it. My friend was quite annoyed at her!

No big deal... unless she's one of those creepy people who buy things because you have it and then try to dress like you... I wouldn't hang out with people like that. But if they just happen to have the same taste and occasionally buy the same clothes I don't see the problem. Some things you just have to have right? It wouldn't be fair if you couldn't buy something you really like just because your friend already has it.

Re: When your friends buy the same thing as u =P

i hate it when some people compliment your friend but not you, even if you have the exact same thing..
"awww i like your shirt"
"that's cute"

but they don't say it to you

Re: When your friends buy the same thing as u =P

I have a friend that HAS to be the only person that has that item. Here are some things that kind of annoyed me... sorry if it sounds like rants:

1. She had this AE hoodie, and AE is like *brand name* so it's NOT a surprise that other people would have the same hoodie. Well, a friend of ours' sister had the same hoodie and one day, they wore it on the same day! She made this HUGE fuss about it and refused to wear the hoodie ever again. And a couple of days later, when we saw our friend she was complaining to her saying things like, "your sister has the same hoodie as me!! I can't believe this!! I can't wear my hoodie again now!"

2. I was getting my first phone and I was just looking through the styles and I asked for her opinion since she recently got a new phone and the first thing she said to me was, "just don't get the same one as me." Well, obviously, I won't. I didn't even like the colour of her phone (it was a sickly yellow colour...) and we'll look like dorks if we have the same phone since we hang out a lot.
Then she caught me looking at a phone website and it was the slide phone section and she went nuts!! She was like "I THOUGHT YOU WEREN'T GOING TO GET THE SAME PHONE AS ME!!! YOU PROMISED!!!" O_O!!! Apparently, I was not allowed to have the same style (slide phone) as her either!!! What the heck.... I wanted a flip phone anyways, I was just looking at the slide phones, she didn't have to blow her top =_=

Re: When your friends buy the same thing as u =P

i use to have a friend like that. i get really annoyed when they are like "ohh i wanted that for the longest time" or "do you mind if i get the same thing?" (in like a shy kinda voice) or after a couple of days go and but the exact same thing.

that's why sometimes i would just say that my sister got it for me and i don't know where she got it from.

and that's another reason why i like to shop by myself. it's faster and we don't ahve to compete over clothing since we are all usually around the same size.

however if it is a popular store and a namebrand one i wouldn't really fuss over it... because so many people are going to buy and wear the exact same thing

yea i don't really mind that much unless they make me look horrible in it. my friend has the same jeans as i do and i don't realyl care. my ex best friend used to be so bitchy and got pissed off everytime we got the same thing > >
what do you guys think if you see someone you know wearing a shirt/pants that you really want? would you still get it? its tempting for me, but im not sure if i should cuz some ppl do care and i dont wanna piss them off when i knwo they have it><

Re: When your friends buy the same thing as u =P

I don't think any of my friends purposely buy the same items as me. Even if we have similar styles, we try to add our own "flare" - I mean, no one wants to be a copy!

I try to avoid buying items that are "fads" - skinny jeans, leggings, ballet flats - since so many people are buying those items these days. I think skinny jeans and leggings were a fad in 2007 though, and less people are wearing them.

I also try to avoid buying items that are brands that or from stores that people usually shop at. This includes:
Average to above average: Guess, Lululemon
Average: Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters, Aritzia, Hollister (soooo many people I know have shirts with "HOLLISTER" printed in big letters even though the store is at least 1 hour away), Roots (esp. for the sweatpants), etc.
Low-end: Costa Blanca, Stitches, Urban Behavior, Urban Planet (many of my peers/classmates buy sale items from these stores... so many people have the same plaid sweater =.=)

I tend to shop at stores like the Guess retail store (most people go to the Guess outlet which carries items different from the main store), Club Monaco, Jacob Connexion, Old Navy, Bebe (it's a bit far from my area so less people wear Bebe), Parasuco. These stores are simple but you can find stylish finds. I go to Sporting Life and Holt Renfrew a few times a year as a treat - no one ever has the same things from there because there's so much selection (and it's so far away)! For basics, I just shop at the same stores as everyone else.
