Asking for a vacation in new jobs

Ummm have anyone went on a vacation after working for two months or so? Because this summer I am not planning to take summer courses and I don't want to work like 6 days a week at my current job, so I was thinking of getting a second job for two months until I go back to HK on June 26th. But the problem is I am not sure if people would hire me if they know I am going on vacation, and even if I tell them, how likely is it for them to let me keep the job after the two months?

Also anyone have recommendations as in what kind of job I should get in these two months? I currently work at KFC and I don't think I plan to quit anytime soon because I worked there for almost 3 years and I love everyone there and the pay is decent...

    Thanks!

if you apply for job and during on an interview you tell them that you will be on a vacation in 2months they wont hire you for sure, specially you are going on a summer time, they need people during summer. You can try to apply but dont tell them anything, just quit after...

i think if you are planning on going on vacation and only working for 2 months you should just get hired and then quit. many people do that but their reason is because they don't like the job. i agree what was said below that if you tell them you are going on vacation and this is not a permanant job for the summer, they won't hire you. that is when they need people and they will have many more people applying for summer jobs to choose from.

Re: Asking for a vacation in new jobs

If you choose not to tell them up front that you're gone after two months, then that most likely means that you're also choosing not to use them as a future reference.

Nevertheless, it's not impossible to get a busy time off shortly after starting a new job, though my circumstances may have been more valid than yours. I'm going to school in a different city from home, and I live in my school's residence. They kick us out of residence during winter break, so I had to fly home for the break. I started a job (fashion retail) at the beginning of November, and at the interview I told them that I wouldn't be here for the holidays, and they hired me anyway.

Re: Asking for a vacation in new jobs

If you really want to work for 2 months, go to an agency and they can hire you for temporary work. They'll find a job for you somewhere that needs help and you can work there and have no strings attached with the actual company. The upside is the agency finds work for you, you work for as long as you want and you get paid decent, depending on what kind of experience you have. The downside is that the agency makes money from you because they find you work. For example, if they pay you $12 an hour, they'll charge the company you're working for $16 an hour. But if you just want to make some quick easy cash, this would be the way to do it.

Thanks everyone for the advices! I am going to start handing out my resumes some time this week and hopefully I will get hired before I finish my exams so I don't have to be stuck at KFC 6 days a week ;)

Hey maybe you can apply for PNE/Playland. I think April is when they start hiring, and they usually hire so many people to cover all the shifts / availibilities.. i don't think you'll have a problem applying for temporary work there. And it's a fun place to work.

Well I would agree with not mentioning anything in the interview. After getting the job, ask around how the manager may react. If it's negotiable, then speak to the manager. If it isn't then quit...
