DO IT YOURSELF: Makeup brush storage / organization

I recently bought Colorfill from Michaels, so here's a quick DIY on makeup brush storage / organization!

For those who are not familiar with what Colorfill is, it is a product commonly used to fill vases, style flowers, centerpieces, etc.
It can be found in the floral department at Michaels but in this situation, I'm using it to hold up my makeup brushes!

This is what Colorfill looks like out of the bag. It looks & feels like chopped up plastic chunks.
It also looks really similar to what Sephora uses to keep their brushes up for display but Sephora has their own unique fillers.

The quality of Eyeslipsface brushes (Essential/Studio/Mineral) are quite good IMO. My favorite is the mineral concealer brush and I do NOT recommend the Kabuki face brush ... it sheds like crazy.

Large brush holder before & after being filled with brushes:

I like how the brush holder is large enough to fit the Studio brush collection, my MAC brushes, and other stuff like my eyelash curler, lash serum, and mascara!

Products featured (links direct to the product):
    - 1lb of Colorfill ($9.99 -> got it for $5.99 with 40% off coupon) from Please login or register to view links

Omg thank you so much, I've been looking for those colourfill stuff forever!

Michaels is the go-to place for arts & craft supplies. You can find pretty much anything there ... just need some imagination to create different projects!

is it under floral > accessories? which dry gems is it? :S

It's not on the Michaels website. It's pointless to look for it on there anyways because:
    1. There's no online shopping, so you can't buy it online.
    2. I've already listed the price for it, so you don't need to check the price.

what if u want more details about what it's made of? I can't buy clothing off of aritzia but I still check online to see if there's other variations.

With Aritzia, you can see prices (helpful) whereas you cannot on the Michaels website (not helpful). The Michaels website doesn't even state what the product is made out of either ... just how it's used (as a vase filler to style flowers / centerpieces as mentioned above).

If anyone is curious as to what Colorfill is made out of ... I don't know either. There's no info on it on the packaging.

@ Vietdollyful, I don't recommend the dry gems as they aren't suited for this type of project plus the size of the gems are quite large (your brushes won't stand properly). An alternative to buying Colorfill/gems is to fill your brush holder with sand!

haha i was skimming the pictures and for a second i thought it was floating in the first picture! lol. Thanks though, i didn't even know elf sold those brush holders!

To be honest, the ELF brush holder isn't that great. The back side has air bubbles? You know when you glue a piece of paper onto another sheet of paper and sometimes there's an air bubble in the middle if you don't smooth it out? It looks like that -.- It doesn't bother me much because it's on the back side and will face a wall but that anal side of me doesn't like the fact that it has air bubbles :(

@ $15, it's better to purchase a glass vase from Michaels for $5-20 (depending on size). I saw them at Michaels AFTER purchasing the ELF brush holder.

I love the following containers because it doesn't take up as much space as the cylinder containers. I didn't get either of them because I don't have that many brushes and the containers weren't even at the top (looked slightly slanted).

I saw this one for $5.XX (with the 40% coupon I had & this would need 1lb of Colorfill)

This one was $9.XX (with the 40% coupon I had & this would need 2lb of Colorfill)

Not sure of the price for the following as I didn't bother looking at them but they're also available @ Michaels:

All the containers mentioned in this post are found in the floral department at Michaels!

& For anyone who's curious, the Colorfill isn't scratching the brush handles (from what I've seen so far over the past 3 weeks).

Just adding a tip is that you can use rice instead of those colorfill things. I just saw this girl use it in a youtube video to store her brushes the same way.

i like that idea because rice is so cheap and looks so clean and simple

    bump!
this is now how i hold my brushes. i bought a glass vase and the filler stuff at dollarama at metro town, $2 a piece. i bought one pack of the filler stuff and used it all. i don't have a ton of brushes so it fits :) cheaper than michaels for sure if anyone is looking for an alternative! i have to admit, my brushes were in an old slurpee cup LOL ><
