How many shots does the dentist give you?

I had 2 fillings done today and it kept hurting even though he gave me 3 shots of anesthesia and a fourth shot of some stronger stuff. I could still feel it hurting me alittle bit.. This one time I needed 6 shots to even have my mouth become numb. Is this normal ? :( I find them painful and they taste really bad. My dentist injected them at the roof of my mouth.

ouch. Your cavities must be really bad then. I was given a numbing gel and one injection last month I went to the dentist's.

It depends how severe the cavities are. If the infection is close to the root then it'll be more sensitive and might need more injections. Also depends on where the cavity is and if you'll feel the drilling on your tongue etc. that's why they have to numb multiple places. I once had like 5 shots and 3 of this extra strong stuff and I could still feel the drilling so she sent me home with antibiotics to drain the infection.

I had a root canal done this year and at first he gave me two shots then while he was "plunging" I felt it and shook. He gave me one or two more and I was fine. I could still feel it but it doesn't hurt

I only got one shot last time I got a filling. Probably depends on your pain tolerance?

i usually just get 1 shot for a filling. one time i only had 1 shot for 2 fillings side by side. Also had a root canal done with just 1 shot.

:( i'm not sure if it had to do with pain tolerance but everytime it did hurt it felt like a very sharp pain similar to when my teeth really hurt from sensitivity.

I don't have any fillings but a long time ago when I had 4 teeth pulled, I had 12 needles. That was pretty awful!

lucky.. my injections were on the roof of my mouth which i find a painful place to insert. Ever since I was around 11-12 I needed more needles for my cavities.

ouch.. I got knocked out with gas when i had to get 6 teeth removed for my braces LOL. Also, my mouth is hurting where they injected it from yesterday :(

When I had my fillings done he only gave me two shots one of my gums and the other on the gum line, my whole side was totally numb for 4 hours

mine didnt last very long for some reason.. I could feel it wearing off slowly 10 mins after he injected it.

I normally get one or two shots per filling/side but there was this one time when my dentist started working on my cavity and I could still feel the pain so he gave me another shot that didn't even kick in until I had already left the office. Talk about fail LOL

havent seen a dentist in like 4 years >.>

on a side note, everyone is different so it may not work as well as others

i do recall at a very young age, one of my baby teeth were really messed up.... i think i had like 8+ shots cuz i would not stop screaming. a 10 minute procedure turned into a 1 hour + long procedure and BOTH of the senior oral hygenists (dentists) had to step in. The tooth came out like a fish hook cuz one of the "legs" grew in a hook angle ish thing so it was ripping my gum apart ._.

Oh my! That must have been a low dosage on the freeze if it didn't last long. That must have hurt pretty bad too, it sucks because their needles are so long and bigger than the regular syringes

I've only gotten one filling done and it was two shots right next to the tooth, one at the front and one at the back.

I'm surprised you even got anaesthesia/shots for two fillings! Although, I've only had 1 filling in the last 3 years, I didn't need anything & it stopped 'stinging' after like 10 minutes. If it makes a difference, the filling was in the top right back corner.

There was a case where a dentist used to remove his patients clothing while they were knocked out... yeah.... i choose shots
