I recommend Point Zero Lounge or Ebisu. The Eatery is too overpriced for what they're serving.

Their sushi is also isn't that great, but I admit I do love the place! I really do, I just think it's overrated and overpriced.

    You want Japanese or "Japanese"?

Nanaimo sushi is pretty good. They're actually Korean, but they do the whole Japanese greetings when entering/leaving. That always cracks up my gf because she's like, "They're fake Japanese!". The servings are pretty big too, but they don't serve alcohol.

Ebisu (pronounced as "eh-bis", not Eee-Bee-Suu) is good for drinks and decent for food as well.

If you just want a little bit of food and mostly want to drink stuff like Sapporo or something, teppanyaki will be your best best. $13 per pitcher or something, but food are expensive.

Might be a good idea to find one of those free Japanese magazines around downtown. Coupons and special deals in them.

I'd say Kingyo but they're more of a tapa's place.

The Guu Izakaya restaurants and Zakkushi (mainly specializes in charcoal-grilled meats).

I double this. Zakkushi can be quite salty, though. Since they just put sea salt in everything....=/

Guu in Gastown is my favourite...the least loud of the all..

Also, try Tariyou Ichiba in Burnaby (where Kura used to be). All run by Japanese people, so it's all authentic Japanese food =)

Kimura in Vancouver is no longer owned or operated by Kimura-san...so stay away now.

Fancy but affordable would Hapa Izakaya (many locations in Vancouver) or Suika on Broadway.

(Hapa Izakaya has a "Hapa Hour" from 3pm - 6pm on weekdays. They offer half price tapas, $4 beer, and/or $5 wine then!)

If you want "fast food" type of sushi, then I'd say Sushi Garden/Sushi Town (same owner) in Burnaby/Coquitlam.
