UBC ECON 101 with GATEMAN. Going to another section instead of the one I am registered in?

    Hi,

I was wondering if Gateman's lectures are absolutely the same for all his Econ 101 sections? I have a class in buchannan RIGHT BEFORE Gateman's class in Wood, and its extremely stressful to have to almost SPRINT to gateman's class since he hates people being late. As well, even if I make it there in time, most of the spots are already taken. Do you think it would matter if I just go to another econ section instead of the one that I am registered in? Are the mid-term and final exams different for different sections are is it everyone in Econ 101 with Gateman going to do the mid-term at the exact same time?

    Thanks.

better to stay with the section you are registered in. if the other sections of gateman are full, then it's unfair for you to take somebody else's seat. sadly you're just going to have to live with the fact that your classes are far... last year i had class in buchanan and i had to run to CIRS after... and after that back to irving. this year i have a class in the aquatic ecosystems building, and then buchanan... and i also have a class in the west mall swing space and then buchanan. the point is, there's really not much i think you can do about it, especially with all the construction on campus.

you do the midterm with your own section in class at whatever the class's normal time is.
Finals are different, you do it with all the other sections.

    Think of it this way.

If you attend a class with the same prof, same class different section and you write the mid term with that section. He/she will get thrown off because 1. Profs generally create different exams for different sections to prevent cheating 2. He/she probably organizes and marks them by section 3. You will probably not get marks for it.

Have you talked to him? Best to talk to him and see what he says. Most professors are very understanding if your classes are far away, they DO know how big UBC is.

Also xneener is right, you could possibly fuck it up for yourself if the exams are different by sections and your exam isn't in the proper section when it's graded.

I'm assuming you're in first year so honestly, my advice is never try to sneak around in classes - ALWAYS talk to your prof if you're having difficulties. In the end, it's your marks, your time, your money. Make it worth it for yourself.

well i was thinking more of going to the different section for lectures, but going back to my own section for exams.

That would probably be ok, but again, it would be better to talk to your professor first. Are the other sections full? You may be taking another student's spot. And if he recognizes you from one section but you're showing up to write an exam for a different section, that might also throw him off.
