Visiting Vancouver
Hey, I'm planning to take a trip to Vancouver sometime to visit my cousins. Since most of you live in Vancouver, hopefully you can help me out! What's the best time of the year to go to Vancouver? Best sales? Most festivals/events? Where is the best place to shop? What are the best, must-eat-at restaurants? Is there anything I *must* do when I'm in Vancouver? How do most people in Vancouver dress - is it similar to Toronto? (Probably a dumb question)

Re: Visiting Vancouver
whoa lotta questions there hehe. it's all good.
- i think ppl in Toronto and Vancouver dress pretty similar - best place to shop. go to Downtown Robson and Metro for sure. Downtown: the Aldo Outlet, Holt Renfew, Coach, Urban Outfitters..basically downtown has more brandname stuff Metrotown: lotta good deals...on cheaper clothes...Urban Behaviour, Sirens, etc. - best time of year to come to Vancouver - i prefer summer =) but any season is good. jus it'll be rainy and snowing now (jan/feb) - festivals/events : Nightmarket, Celebration of lights - fireworks, Aritzia Warehouse Sale, PNE/Playland, Stanley Park NightMarket taht starts in mid May in richmond. tons of really good food and lil things to buy. stationary...jus the atmosphere is fun =) Summer celebration of lights - need i say more? 4 separate days of different countries competing in Fireworks displays. such a fun thing to do. u can view them on almost every beach around downtown area. even on mountains too. it happens during the last days of July and the beginning days of August. Aritzia Warehouse sale that happens just before school starts. so late August to early September. Playland and PNE - just like Toronto's Wonderland but it probably isn't as well known or big as Wonderland. Stanley Park - its beautiful and friggen massive! go to tha Aquarium, bike around the seawall =) - best restaurants: it really depends what you like and price. Hell's Kitchen on West 4th is good! it's not the one on the TV shows but it's famous for their pizza and they have pasta there too. Joey's/Joey Tomatos - i like their half rib and half chicken entree Cannery or Joe Fortes - for their seafood platters! =) Japadog - there's that hot dog stand on Smithe and Burrad that makes hotdogs japanese style with teriyaki sauce, seaweed, bean sprouts...they have normal hotdogs too Sutton Hotel - try their $25 chocolate buffet. there's cakes, crepes and other stuff too. Anton's pasta - on East Hastings in Burnaby. a huge ass plate of pasta for $17. lots of selection. line up early. there's no reservations. i hope this answers your question |

Re: Visiting Vancouver
Thanks for replying, girls! =) Is the night market similar to the night markets in Asia? The ones with the food booths, clothing booths, jewellery booths, etc.? Sounds so exciting! Too big it might be moving...?
I don't think I'll be going during February... probably the summer or next winter since the temperature's supposed to be higher than here in Toronto. I think. |

Re: Visiting Vancouver
best place to shop? depends on your style really.
- robson st: tons of good trendy stores including aritzia, below the belt, plen+y, guess, etc. - metrotown: great one-stop place for shopping - main st: if you're into vintage or consignment - gastown: trendy and unique local designers - granville st: budding shopping area including urban outfiters, spank, adidas, puma, etc. - south granville: cattiva, chic apparel, TNA, and other trendy stores - oakridge mall: higher end shopping mall that includes J2/jessica, lacoste, coach, etc. - coquitlam centre: H&M, 'nuff said best time of year? - right now... but it's kinda cold and sad-looking outside - SUMMER! lots more things to do and great sales too things to do? - PNE/playland: like the CNE and canada's wonderland (but on a much smaller scale) - richmond nightmarket: chinese market that sells clothes, jewelry, scarves, but the best part really is the food - theatre under the stars (TUTS): enjoy 2 plays in stanley park's malkin bowl - HSBC celebration of lights: fireworks at english bay - science world - capilano suspension bridge - vancouver aquarium - vancouver planetarium - stanley park/english bay - kits/jericho beach - the stanley/queen elizabeth theatre for plays best places to eat? - anton's - opa! (not opa! souvlaki) - guu - cupcakes - true confections - marble slab - the afghan horseman - hell's kitchen - red door - fish on rice |

Re: Visiting Vancouver
the best time i would have to say is the summer.
fairtime (pne), fireworks, night market, etc... there are many good restaurants here, but it really depends on what you like to eat: stephos (greek food that is really cheap), antons (pasta), griffins (dessert buffet) there are different places to shop too: metrotown (more hs and 20's people shop there), downtown, etc... site seeing: must go to whistler, gastown, BEACHES and MOUNTAINS |

Re: Visiting Vancouver
one festival that happens is the Folk Festival(music festival with arts and crafts). This year, it will be happening July 18, 19, and 20, although in past years I thought it was longer. It's down by Jericho Beach. (I'd be glad to give you precise directions to Jericho if you want them!)
